Chapter 150 Fair Trade
“Don’t move!” Joanna shouted when she saw Lucien about to act, stopping him immediately.
Garfield burst out laughing. “So? What are you going to do now, Joanna? How about using the heart of one of your contracted beasts instead? That way, you wouldn’t lose. If I’m not mistaken, that dealer outside, Katherine, is your person, right? How much have you made already? Two hundred billion? Three hundred billion? There is a full 500 billion riding on you right now, and all of it will be paid to me. But my Authority of Law overrides the arena rules to some extent. You probably won’t truly die, but if you put up a beast’s heart, that beast will die for real. So what’s your choice? Lose to me, become my girlfriend, and lose five hundred billion? Or lose a Mythic beast? Either way, you lose big.”
Joanna replied flatly, “You really don’t gamble much, do you? The maximum odds between us are one-to-one. Every time, Katherine adds funds to match the other side and keep the odds balanced. That means even though 500 billion was placed on me, at most, those bettors split your ten billion. And since you only bet ten billion, you only get ten billion in winnings. As for the remaining 490 billion, the house takes it.”
A moment ago, Garfield had looked smug.
The next second, his expression froze.
He genuinely did not know this rule. As a dimensional merchant, he was incredibly wealthy. He had over a trillion in assets.
He had assumed that if he won and the other side lost, all the money would belong to him.
But that was not how it worked.
Garfield’s face darkened, then he forced a smile. “Fine. Money doesn’t matter. As long as I win you and you become my girlfriend, you’ll have to do what I say. Your money will be my money anyway, and you’ll be mine too. When that happens, don’t make excuses about refusing your duties as a girlfriend. That’s when you’ll be the one who can’t accept losing.”
Joanna sneered inwardly. Becoming someone’s girlfriend did not mean selling herself. Other people’s money had nothing to do with her. Even if she agreed to date someone, she still had the right to refuse intimacy.
But if she said any of that, Garfield would just accuse her of being a sore loser.
And this was not the time to argue. The ten-minute window was precious. A third of it had already passed. There were just over six minutes left. Joanna needed to find a way out.
She said, “You seem very sure I’ll lose. But if we trade hearts, we both die. At best, that’s a draw. You act as if you’ve already won.”

Mentioning his ability boosted Garfield’s confidence again. He grinned smugly. “Merchants never take losses. So? Want to put up the heart of some exotic beast? What if your pet has strong healing and recovers instantly?”
Hearing that, Joanna finally caught the key point.
“The transaction has to be fair. You offered your heart in exchange for mine. I can’t use another creature’s heart to trade for yours. You’ve been trying to mislead me into using a summoned beast’s heart, which would violate the fairness of the transaction. If I did that, I’d be erased by
the rules.”
Garfield’s smile stiffened for a moment, then he relaxed again.
“Then use your own heart. Either way, you’ll die.”
“Not necessarily,” Joanna said sharply.
“I accept the trade.”
In an instant, a beating heart appeared on the tray in front of Joanna.
The balance began to spin as the exchange completed.
Moments later, the heart was installed back into Joanna’s body.
“System Notification: You have obtained Garfield’s heart. This heart contains his power. You have additionally gained one of his skills: No-Loss Principle. According to fair exchange rules, you must also lose one ability. The ability removed is Symbiotic Link.”
“No-Loss Principle (Dark Gold-tier): During transactions, you will never take a loss. If the other party fails to meet the conditions of a fair trade, compensation of higher value will be provided.”
At that moment, Garfield exclaimed in disbelief, “Your Symbiotic Link was Dark Gold-tier?”
