Chapter 442 A Group for Killing Gods

That was why the people in the To Be Divine group wanted to kill the Demon Supreme.
But unlike the evil gods, the Demon Supreme was also human, brilliantly intelligent, and probably even harder to deal with than they were.
Many evil gods didn’t care about humans at all. The evil god contamination and aberrant corruption they caused was often completely unconscious.
It was like a human taking a step and collapsing an anthill with one foot. To the ants, it was a natural disaster. To the human, it barely registered.
Was it? Did I do that? I wiped out a species? So what? They were only ants.
But the Demon Supreme was different. He was human too. He had clawed his way to godhood through countless near-death battles and by slaughtering untold numbers of righteous cultivators. If anyone wanted to fight him, Mythic-grade support was an absolute requirement.
And the people in this To Be Divine group actually wanted to kill a god through their own power. It was insane.
Joanna also received a message from Saul.
“My teaching philosophy is basically laissez-faire, so I don’t take weak students.
“The doctoral graduation requirement is level 80. Most students take three years, gaining about five levels a year, and need to participate in at least five divine wars.
“Of course, divine wars don’t happen constantly, and the danger level is always extremely high, so delayed graduation is normal,
“But in your case, if Professor Carpenter helps you, not only will you avoid delay, you may even graduate early.
“In any case, work hard.”
Joanna still had plenty of questions, so she hurried to ask them before Saul truly switched into hands-off mode and left her digging through high-clearance records on her own.
“Professor, I noticed there are quite a few people in the group who have already reached Supreme Grandmaster. Why haven’t they become gods yet? Does godhood require some complete trigger or opportunity?”
Saul replied, “They lack faith, and they lack divinity,”

Faith referred to the power of mass belief, collective consciousness, a shared spiritual force formed from people’s conviction.
For some divine spirits, the more believers they had, the stronger their divine power became.
And Joanna just happened to have that too. She had the Goddess Monument.
As for divinity, that meant the power of rules.
When many people participated in killing a god, the god’s rules would be scattered. Even if you collected ninety-nine percent of a rule, it still would not be enough unless you fully controlled it.
And beyond that, rules worked much like the theory of source matter.
There were only so many resources to go around. If you had them, someone else didn’t. Everyone was fighting over the same pool, and in the end, no one became a god.
Helen had been able to ascend through a different route, because her contract companion already carried immense rule power of its own, specifically the rules of Fusion and Regeneration.
As long as Helen reached the attribute threshold required for godhood, she could ascend.
My own attributes still aren’t enough for the base strength needed to become a god, Joanna thought, but I do have a lot of rules. The ones I’ve mastered most deeply are Charm, Dream Entry, and Longevity. Then there are a number of smaller rules, and even Nighthowl and Alwyn carry some on them.
Joanna sorted it out in her mind,
“Then, Professor, doesn’t that make the To Be Divine group would just end up as everyone carving up the same pie and in the end, nobody ascends at all?”
Saul smiled, clearly pleased.
Joanna really was formidable. And not just in raw strength.
Her understanding of the Space Alliance, and of divine abilities, was far beyond that of ordinary people. That meant he didn’t need to explain much.
This was the pleasure of talking to a top student. Unlike some of the students he had taken before, whose questions never seemed to end.
“That’s why it’s a mutual aid society. If you participate often enough, you can trade attributes

there. Sooner or later, you can accumulate enough rules and eventually become a god that way.
“The society has already produced three gods. Of course, those divine spirits are all lurking now and no longer talking. But if they want to support their own people, they’ll organize teams to go god-hunting. If you get the chance to join that kind of operation, do it.
“If there’s no god involved, then be cautious.
“Oh, and if you can bring the God of Demon Sealing along, things will be even safer.”
“Understood, Professor.”
“Mhm. Contact me again if you have questions. And if you don’t understand something, you can also ask your seniors.”
“Got it.”
After ending the call with Saul, Joanna glanced again at Saul’s student group.
Only to find that she was being tagged.
“@Class of 1119, Doctoral Candidate, Mythic-grade Summoner, Joanna, take us god-hunting.”
Joanna stopped dead in her tracks for a second.
“Uh… shouldn’t you be the ones carrying me?”
Carl sent a sweating emoji.
“Our strength’s too weak. We’ve already delayed graduation by two years and are waiting for your rescue. Teacher said you’ve already joined the To Be Divine group, so you can sign up for operations there. When the time comes, you’ll be able to lead people, so please take us with you.”
“The To Be Divine group is hard to get into?”
“To enter, you need the ability to kill a divine spirit on your own. Even a lesser evil god counts. We can only assist in kills. That doesn’t qualify.”
So that was it.
Joanna herself had killed a Formless-tier being before, which was why she qualified to enter the group. After all, only someone who personally killed a divine spirit could earn a godslayer title.
Everyone else could only get an achievement for participating in a divine war, plus a few attribute points, and that was the end of it.

Just then, someone tagged her in the other group as well.

“What the hell? Why is there every kind of person in this group? Why is the new one only level 68?”
“ID Joanna… that’s not the top prodigy, is it?”
