Chapter 483 Frozen Welcome
The sentinels on the other ship hesitated.

A Guide commanded a certain respect among their kind, and a Summoner was effectively the same thing now. But what Joanna didn’t know was that the Madness Spaceship wasn’t crewed by ordinary sentinels. It was a ship full of pirates.
“Who do you think you are, throwing around words like ‘contract? You’re not Joanna! Get lost, or we open fire.
The distant ship swung its cannons toward the Peace Spaceship. From where they were standing, the Peace Spaceship looked like it was built from timber, an unarmed passenger vessel with no business posturing against them.
Joanna’s expression cooled down.
“Negotiations are over. I won’t be holding back, and if you fire, you won’t survive it. The perfume compensation I mentioned earlier? Forget it. We’ll settle this the old-fashioned way.”
She cut the channel.
Back on the Peace Spaceship, she returned to her work, tracing the summoning circle without missing a beat.
On the other side, the crew of the Madness Spaceship noticed that Joanna had cut off communications and still made no move, growing all the more brazen.
“Summoners aren’t what they used to be. Nobody needs them the way they needed Guides back then. And now that we’ve got Affinity Perfume, why would anyone bother contracting one? Why should we be the ones to back down?”
“Exactly.”
“Boss, let’s just blow them out of the sky.”
“Hold on. We just got our records cleaned. I don’t want Space Alliance flagging us again. Let’s wake up the Ice Phoenix first. If we’re the ones who do it, she’ll owe us.”
“Right. And when this woman wants to contract the Ice Phoenix, she’ll have to come to us.”
“Ha! These twisted sentinels are always dazed when they first wake up. Easy to work with. Boss, we’re running a completely legitimate operation here.”
“Boss, you’re a genius!”
The pirates burst out laughing. Then, in the next instant, their smiles dropped and disappeared from their faces. They felt it. Something in the air.
A massive summoning circle had materialized on the frozen planet below, and from it poured an Affinity Aura unlike anything they’d encountered. One billion Affinity Points, channeled into the circle in a single surge. It was enough to drive any sentinel to madness.

The pirates couldn’t help themselves. For men who had always lived by plunder, theft, and conquest- restraint was never part of the creed.
“She’s mine! She’s my Guide! Our compatibility is definitely 100″! Get out of my way, I need to reach that circle!”
“Don’t touch me!”
“Move!”
They turned on each other inside the ship, then abandoned it entirely, launching themselves into open space toward the frozen planet below.
But out in open space, frost spread across their bodies, and the closer they got, the more solidly they froze. With no gravity to hold them, they became drifting debris, scattered across the void.
Meanwhile, on the ice-locked planet, every gust of wind and flurry of snow stopped all at once.
Then, it reversed. The wind and snow came roaring back all at once, spinning into a massive vortex, everything condensing toward a single point, until a shape emerged from the center of it.
A bird. Pure white, enormous, breathtaking, with tail feathers shading from white into deep ice blue. Noble and absolutely still.
The Ice Phoenix.
He bathed in the Affinity Aura pouring through the circle, and his distortion level began to drop.
90″.
He shifted into human form. His skin was pale beyond what any human skin should be, the color of fresh snow. His hair was white, fading to ice blue at the tips, and his eyes carried a faint blue luminescence, the pupils shaped like intricate snowflakes.
80″.
He drew the wind and snow around himself and shaped it into a white robe.
50″.
Half the planet’s storm had been absorbed into his body. Beneath the clearing skies, black mountain. ranges and bare earth emerged for the first time.
30″.
His presence sharpened into something cold and absolute. But there was a faint curve at the corner of his mouth as he looked up toward the Peace Spaceship. He could feel it. The Guide who had opened the circle was there.
All that stood between them now was the threshold of the array itself.
