The Best Revenge It Wasn't Even Your Child novel Chapter 201

Catherine froze, completely thrown off by the sudden question.

“Try what?”

“Spending time together. With the idea of dating, I mean.”

Lewis’s voice was a little shaky, like he was nervous just saying it.

Catherine honestly never saw this coming. Lewis, interested in her? That wasn’t even on her radar.

“If you like me just because I helped you out, that seems a bit impulsive, don’t you think?”

Lewis rushed to explain. “No, it’s not like that. I felt something the first time I saw you. I just never thought you’d notice me.”

He paused, then added, “After we kept running into each other, I started thinking maybe it was fate.”

“I’m sorry,” Catherine said, not sugarcoating it, “but I don’t have feelings for you either.”

“I get it. That’s why I think we should just start as friends,” Lewis said, quickly correcting himself. “Not dating. Just friends.”

Lorinda, who’d been nearby holding her baby, perked up when she heard Catherine’s voice. She crept closer, literally pressing her ear to Catherine’s phone.

Catherine tried to move away, but Lorinda just tugged her back so she could keep listening.

“You’re not my type. That’s all there is to it,” Catherine said, and hung up.

“Who was that?” Lorinda asked, grinning, her eyes full of mischief.

Catherine set her phone down and went back to washing the dishes. “Just a friend.”

“It’s not Aaron, is it?” Lorinda asked. She knew every guy who’d ever hovered around Catherine.

Besides Lance, Aaron was the one Catherine saw most often.

“Of course not,” Catherine said, rolling her eyes. “He knows I was married to Lance.”

Lorinda made a face. “So what? You’re gorgeous and successful. Being married before doesn’t matter. You’d still have a line of guys after you.”

“It was just some blind date my coworker set up,” Catherine explained. “Things got weird, I couldn’t back out, but I already told him I wasn’t interested.”

He rattled it all off, then didn’t wait for her to respond or even ask about her. He just nodded and ended things right there.

Before he left, he said, “I hope you give it some real thought. But please, don’t let my actions freak you out.”

If Catherine was being honest, Lewis actually was a really solid option. Maybe if she wasn’t pregnant, she would have thought about it more seriously.

But before she could even finish the thought, Lance’s sharp, handsome face filled her mind.

She took a long breath and headed upstairs.

A week later, Ableson was finally discharged from the hospital.

Lance came back to the office full time, and just like that, Catherine’s workload was slashed in half. She felt lighter, almost like she could breathe again.

And in that same week, Shirley finally squeezed the truth out of Amanda. Catherine was pregnant.
