The Best Revenge It Wasn't Even Your Child novel Chapter 241

Sarah slid open the balcony door.

“Adelina…”

Before Sarah could say anything more, Adelina spun around and stormed out, pushing past her at the doorway and disappearing in a rush.

Sarah stumbled back against the wall, her face flushing with worry and frustration. “Lance, what are you waiting for? Go after her!”

Adelina left so fast, crying as she went, that everyone in the living room just sat there, stunned.

Lance watched her go, his brow furrowed, but he didn’t move an inch.

Sarah’s voice was sharp with urgency. “Why are you just standing there? She swallowed her pride to apologize, you know. She’s been blaming herself for days, barely sleeping…”

Daniel slammed his hand on the armrest and stood up, unable to sit still any longer.

The James family sat in silence, their expressions all different. No matter how accidental it was, Adelina had caused the problem. Now she was running out in tears, making it look like the James family was bullying her. Was Lance really supposed to chase after her and comfort her?

Daniel nodded to Ableson and Fiona, his voice steady. “Ableson, Fiona, we’ll talk to Adelina when we get home. The Green family owes you an apology. As her parents, we’re sorry.”

Sarah came in from the balcony, ready to defend Adelina, but Daniel shot her a look. Whatever she wanted to say, all that came out was a mumbled apology that matched Daniel’s.

“Yes, yes, we’re truly sorry…”

With a few awkward words, the Greens said their goodbyes and left. A servant walked them to the door.

Fiona ignored her and got up, moving to the open balcony door. “I heard the board wants you to fire Catherine. If you actually do that, what will people think of our family? It’ll crush morale and make those rumors look real.”

Everyone knew the media wasn’t clueless. The stories about Gavin and Catherine made her out to be scheming, as if she’d thrown herself at him. But someone like Gavin had met all kinds of women. The real story was more complicated.

Fiona’s voice was steady. “Do the right thing. Don’t throw her under the bus just to get yourself out of a mess.”

Lance stayed silent, so Fiona turned and made her way upstairs. She’d said all she needed to say. Now it was up to him.

Upstairs, Sophia sat on a wicker chair by the landing, her phone in her hand. When she saw Fiona coming, she stopped recording, stood up, and went to help her.

“Grandma, I heard Leilani already talked to Catherine and told her to leave.”
