Chapter 59
Lydia POV
“Dad confronted her and warned her that if anything happens to you, it will be her end!” Jake answered curtly.
“What did you just say?!”
Damon jerked upright so suddenly it scared me, his body convulsing as he broke into a hard cough. The hear monitor spiked in sharp, angry beeps.
Clive reacted instantly, slapping a hand over his own mouth regretting telling Damon about Dad’s meeting with Fiona after seeing the outcome.
I could almost hear his thoughts screaming in panic. Clive had always been like that–reckless, too honest, never knowing when to shut up. And this time, his carelessness had stabbed straight into the middle of our family.
But then again… maybe only someone like Clive could say it.
Dad’s face darkened as he looked at him, his expression turning thunderous, like a storm gathering behind his eyes.
“Dad had accused the wrong person. He hadn’t checked the truth first and hadn’t waited to listen to me before he stormed out to meet her. I hope you didn’t create a scene and harassed her openly!” Damon growled and everyone shared glances, saying nothing because Dad had done the exact.
Then Damon spoke again.
“Dad… from now on, please don’t go after Fiona anymore.”
My breath caught hearing him say this.
“Every time you do, it just adds to the guilt we already carry and exposes us as a heartless family especially as Fiona is gaining ground and fame..”
The room froze and I stared at Damon, my fingers curling into the bedsheet.
This wasn’t the Damon I knew.
The old Damon would never ever talk about guilt where Fiona was concerned or show any defense for her.
“Damon. “I whispered inside my head.
What happened to you?
Dad looked stunned too, his brows pulling together. “What are you saying? I only went after her because I was worried about you. You collapsed right after seeing her so how could I not
For once, his voice sounded defensive.

、,,,
I know Dad Damon said quietly I know you were worried.
There was no accusation in his tone and somehow, that made it worse because I could see it clearly now that Dad going after Fiona for Damon had only twisted the knife of guilt and pity deeper into hum
It won’t take time before it all grows into love. Damn
The infirmary fell into a suffocating silence for a moment before Mom stepped in, forcing a smile that didn’t quite reach her eyes “Alright, enough of these talks. Damon, are you hungry? I made chicken soup
for you
“Thanks, Mom”
Damon played along as he always did when Mom tried to smooth things over but I knew he was still restless
Clive took that as his cue to escape. He muttered something about having things to do and slipped out like his life depended on it.
Coward
“I need some fruit.” Damon requested and I volunteered immediately. “I’ll go get some. I know a place nearby.”
Lance straightened. “I’ll come with you.”
He walked a step ahead of me as we left the infirmary and not beside me.
That tiny distance made my chest tighten painfully as I feared their love for me was reducing..
Not just Damon… even Lance may be feeling different now, wanting Fiona back.
After a few steps, I spoke softly, my voice carefully gentle. “Lance… don’t you think Damon has changed? With the way he blamed Dad.”
He didn’t slow down as he replied. “Dad was wrong this time.”
That was all he said,
Short Direct Honest
“But that doesn’t mean Fiona is right either. She had been using every opportunity to pant us evil to the public when she cut ties herself She had been the bad egg of the family and now she wants to act innocent and make us look evil” he spat, hissing loudly.
I could feel it His hatred for Fiona hadn’t faded. Not even a little
To him, she was still a walking disaster- someone who needed to hit a wall hard enough to bleed, just so
she’d learn her lesson
I swallowed and tried again, letting my eyes glisten innocently just enough “Lance….don’t you feel even a little sorry for her?”
