The Betrayed Princess Rising (Lylah and Ezra) novel Chapter 418

Chapter 418

Lylah’s POV

Ezra turned fully toward Eldric then, and a chill crawled down my spine.

For one terrible heartbeat, I truly thought he was going to tear Eldric apart where he stood.

The fury rolling off him was thick and violent, so overwhelming the air itself seemed to tremble beneath

But Ezra did not move.

Did not strike.

“Truth?” he repeated softly. “The truth that she lived in Rowan Blackfang’s territory for five years?”

“That she remained beside him when he was crippled? That she treated him without asking for anything in return? That she carried his burdens, helped him hold his pack together, supported him with her own hands, her own strength?” His eyes glinted coldly. “That before me, Lylah shared a relationship with Rowan Blackfang? That they spent years together?” His gaze sharpened into something terrifying. “Is that the truth you were so desperate to reveal?”

Eldric faltered.

“You… knew?”

The disbelief in his voice almost sounded absurd.

“She is my Luna,” Ezra said.

The words were simple, yet my wolf stirred instantly, soothed by him even through his fury.

“Of course, I know her past.” His voice deepened, touched now by the growl of his wolf. “I know every scar she carries. Every year she survived without the protection she should have been given.” His eyes never left Eldric’s. “How could I not know the most important years of her life?”

I looked up at him.

There was still anger burning inside him, but beneath it lingered something else.

Regret.

Not toward me.

Toward fate itself.

As though some savage part of him hated the years we had lost before finding one another.

“You don’t understand, Alpha Ezra,” Eldric pressed desperately. “Lylah’s feelings for Rowan Blackfang were not ordinary. Once she went to him, she never willingly returned to Ironcrest again. Never.” Bitterness twisted his expression. “She loved Rowan to the point of blindness. To the point she abandoned

everything else for him. And feelings like that do not simply disappear,”

Firested

Eldric continued darkly. “No matter how much time passes, a bond that deep leaves marks.” His gaze sharpened with ugly certainty. “Somewhere in her heart… There is still a place for Rowan Blackfang. Can you truly accept a Luna whose heart may still belong partly to another Alpha?”

I stared at him in disbelief.

The stupidity of those words nearly outweighed their cruelty.

Before I could speak, Ezra answered.

“I can.”

The room fell silent.

“Because I love her.” Ezra’s arm tightened around my waist, possessive and absolute. “As long as Lylah chooses to stand beside me, I can accept every piece of her past. Every wound. Every memory. Every shadow.” His wolf surged beneath his skin, possessive and unwavering. “Anything.”

Eldric’s face twisted.

This was not the reaction he had wanted.

Not the rejection he had imagined.

“But what about your reputation?” Eldric insisted stubbornly. “If all of Verdanth learns about your Luna’s past, your name and Moonclaw’s reputation will be dragged down with her. She isn’t worth defending if your pack’s honor is the price.”

Ezra did not so much as blink.
