The Billionaire Heir Fell for the Wrong Girl (Hathaway Whitmore) novel Chapter 12

Chapter 12 Playing Hard To Get

Leo knew that ever since Jeremiah suddenly brought Jessica back, Hathaway had started distancing herself from their circle.

Still, he had nothing against Hathaway. Honestly, he felt a little bad for her. She was such a pretty girl, had chased after Jeremiah for years, done practically everything for him, yet never managed to win his heart.

Then all of a sudden, her best friend swooped in and stole someone she loved.

As soon as Leo brought it up, everyone pulled out their phones to look at Hathaway’s trending news. Lucas frowned when he saw some creepy guy comment: [I feel like stroking those legs.]

Jeremiah sat alone drinking. Leo shoved the phone toward him. “Dude, look at this. Those people are always acting like rich kids are criminals. Today’s the first time they’re not trashing us.”

Jeremiah glanced at the phone in front of him.

In the picture, the girl had her back to the camera while talking to the officer. She wore a short Chanel-style jacket, and below it were smooth, straight legs.

Jeremiah only glanced at it before calmly pulling his gaze away.

Leo couldn’t read his mood, so he carefully added, “By the way, Hathaway hasn’t shown up in forever. Think you could ask her to hang out tonight?”

Jeremiah lazily looked up. “Did I ever tell her not to come?”

Everyone froze upon hearing that answer.

Hathaway had been back in the country for quite a while now, yet she hadn’t attended a single party. Everyone had assumed that Jeremiah didn’t want her around.

After all, Jeremiah didn’t want Hathaway and Jessica clashing face-to-face.

Not once had they considered that Hathaway herself simply didn’t want to come.

Lucas, sitting on the sofa across from them, paused for a second too.

“I’ll give her a call,” Leo said. He started to get up, then sat back down again.

He realized that it was just a phone call. No need to hide it from anyone.

Leo found Hathaway’s number and called her on speaker.

“Leo, what’s up?” Hathaway’s clear voice came through the phone, light and relaxed, as if the recent mess hadn’t affected her mood much at all.

Leo replied, “Hey, Hath, we’re hanging out at the usual spot. You wanna join us?”

Leo silently thought, ‘Most importantly, Jessica is not here today!’

Hathaway had basically been stuck at home these past two days, and she was really getting bored. She missed hanging out with Leo and Evelyn.

Leo and Lucas were cousins, but their personalities couldn’t have been more different.

Leo was easygoing and blunt, the type who got along with everyone.

Besides Evelyn, he was probably the only person left in that circle Hathaway could still comfortably talk to.

But the moment she heard him say “we”, she knew there were definitely other people there too. So she cautiously asked, ” Who else is there besides you?”

Leo looked at the others. Hearing Hathaway’s question, they all looked over too. Leo replied, “Calvin, Lucas, and Jeremiah are all here.”

The moment Hathaway heard Jeremiah’s name, she knew she couldn’t join them.

“I’m not coming. I’m pretty busy. Also, from now on, don’t call me if Jeremiah or Lucas is present.” With that, Hathaway hung up without the slightest hesitation.

The air in the private room froze for a few seconds.

Everyone had heard her, but Hathaway had no idea the call had been on speaker.

Leo awkwardly pulled his phone back.

Lucas removed his arm from around his girlfriend’s shoulders and scoffed, “Come on, how long is she gonna keep playing hard to get? Who even cares whether she comes or not?”

Jeremiah said nothing.

Calvin took a sip of his drink.

Leo tried to speak up for Hathaway, “She started working recently. She is indeed busy.”

“I just got a call saying she threw a fit and got kicked out by her dad.” Lucas’s girlfriend laughed when she heard that.

Lucas said with disdain, “Even her dad, who spoils her rotten, got that mad. You can imagine how ridiculous she must’vebeen.

“If nobody gives her a lesson and lets her cool off, she’ll keep acting like a pampered princess forever.”
