Chapter 129
Whitmore Group had been swamped lately. After taking on some of Kingsley Group’s clients, Avery was running around nonstop. Hathaway’s work group chat was blowing up with project updates.
Sylvia eventually caught wind of the situation, and after a few days off, Hathaway told her mom she wanted to get back to work. This time, Sylvia agreed.
The next morning, after getting ready, Hathaway hurried to the office. As soon as she arrived, the receptionist called out to her.
On the desk was a massive bouquet, so fresh they looked like they could still be dripping with dew, their subtle fragrance catching everyone’s attention.
Hathaway asked in surprise, “Who sent these?”
The receptionist shook her head. “No idea.”
Hathaway took the flowers to her office. She opened the card and saw a single letter written in crisp, elegant handwriting, C.
Just then, Avery walked in. He spotted the bouquet, his eyes lighting up as he teased, “Nice, Hathaway. Someone finally figured it out and sent my sister some flowers.”
He paused, leaned in to check the card, and looked genuinely curious. “But who’s this C?”
Hathaway shook her head.
Avery said, “Well, it can’t be Jeremiah. He’s got a girlfriend, plus he’s allergic to flowers. Definitely not him.”
Just then, Aurelia came in with some files. Avery quickly said, T’m heading to the factory to check on the orders. You go ahead and look over the files.”
Hathaway quickly said, “Don’t forget to come by at noon. I’m going to the expo with Killian and the team later this afternoon.”
“Got it. Avery replied.
Hathaway was busy all morning. She grabbed lunch with Killian and the team in the cafeteria, then goi ready and headed to the expo.
Her company was showcasing its latest smart products, and Hathaway was right in the thick of it, meeting with clients and answering questions. She was so busy she didn’t have a second to grab a drink.
After seeing off a group of guests, she turried to check out the rival section, but stopped in her tracks when she reached Harper Group’s booth.
Harper Group had rolled out their latest platform with a big splash, and right in the center of their display was a male tech guy, cool and collected as he answered questions.

For some reason, Hathaway felt a sudden jolt in her chest.

The guy was a bit chubby, wearing a dark shirt and black–rimmed glasses, looking totally absorbed in what he was doing.
The more Hathaway looked at him, the more familiar he seemed.
For a moment, she thought she must be seeing things; maybe it was someone unrelated.
Before long, Calvin came over and started chatting with the tech guy, calling him Judd.
That confirmed Hathaway’s suspicion.
He was actually the fourth key engineer at Blackwood Tech, Judd Prescot
She hadn’t been able to find him yet.
And now, he was already under Calvin’s wing
Hathaway looked over at Calvin.
Just then, Calvin turned around and spotted her.
He gave her a smile and a nod
His smile was unreadable.
Hathaway returned to her booth, her heart racing with nerves.
She told herself, ‘Maybe it really is a coincidence
Calvin looked completely unbothered, while she was the only one feeling guilty.
Meanwhile, at a Reed Group board meeting, a loud snore suddenly broke the silence.
One of the old board members frowned and asked. “Mr. Reed, are you asleep?”
The assistant next to Leo nudged him.
Leo snapped awake, rubbed his face carelessly, and said, “No, I was closing my eyes to brainstorm. When I was abroad, I always snored whenever I was deep in thought.”
Nobody expected anything better from him, so they shook their heads and went on with the meeting.
Leo, bored and restless, shot Flathaway a text: [Where to next?l

Leo: [Guess I got to live it up here while I still can.
After he sent that, Hathaway didn’t reply.

Right as Leo was about to lock his phone, a new notification popped up at the top of his chat window. It was from Jeremiah.
Jeremiah: [Let’s grab a drink sometime.]
“Holy shit!” Leo shot up from his chair.
He moved so fast that the chair went clattering to the floor. Leo was over the moon. He felt like he’d his the jackpot and his luck was finally turning around.
Alistair walked in then, catching Leo all flustered and excited. He was about to scold him.
Leo blurted out, “Grandpa, Jeremiah asked me out for drinks!”
