The Billionaire Heir Fell for the Wrong Girl (Hathaway Whitmore) novel Chapter 14

Chapter 14 The Encounter

Hathaway came down in the elevator and reached the first floor of the mall.

Avery called and said they were already at the restaurant, telling her to come over for lunch after she finished shopping. Yet Hathaway turned him down.

After seeing Celeste, the scenes from her last life kept rising in Hathaway’s mind, sharp and impossible to shake.

Right now, she couldn’t sit down and eat like nothing had happened.

It had been so long, but her guilt toward Celeste was still there.

She thought her family had owned Celeste.

Hathaway hadn’t driven here. She had come in Avery’s car.

When the elevator reached the first floor, she was about to leave the mall and call a cab. Then she suddenly stopped.

She had only come shopping, yet somehow, she ran into familiar faces again.

They were Jeremiah and Jessica.

Hathaway hadn’t spoken to Jessica in a long time. It had been more than half a year. Aside from the time she had followed Avery to the club to stop him from causing trouble. But that time, they hadn’t even exchanged a word then. She hadn’t expected to see Celeste today, then run into Jessica too.

What Jessica had said in Hathaway’s last life still rang clearly in her ears. “Your father is dead, your mother has gone crazy and your brother’s business has been taken from him.

“Jeremiah doesn’t want you anymore. What right do you have to raise your voice at me? You still think you’re some precious heiress?”

And the last time Jessica had gone to Hathaway’s home, she had stood by Hathaway’s sickbed and said, “Celeste’s twins didn’t make it. Your family line is finished.”

Jessica had crushed Hathaway’s last hope and snuffed out what little strength she had left.

She had made Hathaway fully understand the despair of having nowhere left to go.

“Hathaway?” Jessica saw her too.

Her hand, still held in Jeremiah’s, tightened slightly. She didn’t let go.

Jeremiah looked over calmly and saw Hathaway as well. His expression didn’t change, as if he hadn’t seen her at all.

In Hathaway’s previous life, he had said, “You should marry someone who loves you back, not me.

“What exactly do you want from me? I’ll change it.”

In this life and the last, Jeremiah had never loved her.

“Hathaway, can we talk?” Jessica had only just said it when Hathaway walked toward them without stopping.

Then she passed right by them.

Hathaway thought, ‘That’s enough, Jeremiah. This time, I won’t cling to you anymore.’

Jeremiah glanced at Hathaway’s retreating back and then looked away,

Jessica looked up at Jeremiah beside her and said with worry, “What should we do? Hathaway is still mad at us.”

Jeremiah smiled at her. To him, other people’s feelings had never been something he needed to worry about. He simply said, “Come on. Let’s have lunch.”

Jessica smiled and asked, “Will you treat me to whatever I want?”

He replied, “Of course.”

That night, after Avery came home, he brought Hathaway a gift and said Celeste had picked it out herself.

“Oh, say thank to Celeste for me.” Hathaway’s cold heart was warmed by Celeste again, just like in her last life.

She gently ran her fingers over the gift and asked, “Avery, will you love Celeste for the rest of your life?”

“Well…” Avery was caught off guard. “I’ll make sure I’m a good husband.”

“But Celeste loves you so much. She almost cried when she saw a strange woman holding your arm.” Hathaway teased with a smile.

“She was fine once she knew you’re my sister.” Avery rubbed the Hathaway’s head and asked, “Why did you run off earlier?”

“I got embarrassed.” Hathaway lowered her head and blinked back the sting in her eyes.

“You? Embarrassed?” Avery laughed and flicked her forehead.

‘Avery, you have to love and cherish Celeste for the rest of your life, okay? You can tell at a glance she’s a really good person.”

“Okay.” Avery smiled.

Hathaway used to tell him not to get married too early. He wondered why she had suddenly changed. What he didn’t know was that Hathaway had traveled back.

In her last life, after her father and brother died one after another, she had regretted it more than anything.

Christmas was around the corner.

The next day, Eleanor called and asked Hathaway to pay her a visit.

Hathaway wanted to refuse, but Eleanor said she needed Hathaway’s help.
