The Billionaire Heir Fell for the Wrong Girl (Hathaway Whitmore) novel Chapter 174

Chapter 174

After watching the sunrise and heading back, Jeremiah casually mentioned he was going to his room to rest, and then he was nowhere to be found.

Jessica didn’t see him again after that, and a quiet anxiety lingered in her heart.

“You’re looking for Jeremiah, right?” Leo said to Jessica. “He took my car and left.”

“Where did he go?” Jessica asked.

“No idea,” Leo replied.

Jessica’s heart tightened with worry. “What about Hathaway?”

“She got bitten by a bug, so she’s taking a shower,” one of the girls nearby chimed in. “She was still in the shower when we left her room.”

It had been a while already. Is she still not done? Jessica wondered.

Hearing that, Jessica secretly breathed a sigh of relief. ‘As long as Hathaway and Jeremiah stay out of each other’s way, that’s all that matters to me,’ she thought.

Just then, the innkeeper walked over with a cheerful smile, inviting everyone to head to the dining room. She casually asked, “Hey, where are the other two guys? Haven’t seen them around.”

One of the girls grinned and teased, “They’re not coming back anytime soon. The two of them found a spot by the lake to fish, so don’t expect them for a while.”

The innkeeper’s eyes twinkled as she laughed, “Well, that’s perfect. Guess we’ll be having fresh fish soup for dinner tonight.”

Her gaze swept around the room, but Jeremiah and Hathaway were nowhere to be seen. She turned to Evelyn and asked, “So where’s the other girl? Haven’t seen her either.”

Leo quickly spoke up, “Jeremiah went out, and Hathaway said she wanted some pasta. After we’re done eating, could you ask the chef to make her a bowl for her?”

Leo thought to himself, ‘Even if Jeremiah goes off the rails, by the time we’re done eating, everything should be wrapped up!’

Leo scratched his head and followed everyone to the dining room. As they were finishing up, Jeremiah walked in.

Jessica shot him a look and asked, “Where did you go? Did you eat anything?”

“Not hungry.” Jeremiah’s voice was cool and even, giving nothing away. He looked like he’d just stepped out of the shower.

His hair was wet, and his clothes were slightly damp, together with her realizing it.

The innkeeper noticed his damp hair too and asked, a bit puzzled. “Is it raining outside again?”

Jeremiah was feeling thirsty. He popped open a can of soda and took a sip, saying nothing.

Everyone turned to look out the window, and sure enough, it was raining again.

Evelyn shot Leo a glare, her voice full of complaint. “This is all your fault for picking such great weather. We came out to have fun, and now we’re stuck with rain for days.”

Leo was really starting to regret ever coming on this trip.

Things had gotten so out of hand that he honestly had no idea what to do next.

He instinctively glanced up at Jeremiah as Jeremiah set down his can. Those deep, unreadable eyes locked onto his, calm and steady.

Leo’s heart skipped a beat.

He knew Jeremiah had a special forces background, and his hearing was almost unnaturally sharp. There was no way Jeremiah hadn’t picked up on the tiny sounds Leo made when he sneaked upstairs to snoop around.

Leo suddenly felt uneasy and awkward. He managed a sheepish smile, then looked away without realizing it.

Jeremiah should’ve been the one embarrassed, but somehow Leo was the one avoiding his gaze.

The innkeeper had honestly never seen a guy this good-looking and cool. She spoke to Jeremiah in an extra gentle tone, “Hathaway said she really wanted some pasta.

“I’ll take it up to her later. Do you want some too? I can whip up a plate for you as well.”

Jeremiah was caught off guard for a second, then nodded.

Later, Evelyn carried a tray upstairs. When she reached the door, she could hear the sound of running water from inside.

She couldn’t hold back her frustration and yelled at the door. “Seriously? Are you taking another shower? Get out here, now!”

Evelyn started to worry that Hathaway might’ve passed out in there. As she was about to go get help, the water stopped, and the door slowly opened.
