The Billionaire Heir Fell for the Wrong Girl (Hathaway Whitmore) novel Chapter 177

Chapter 177

Hathaway finally managed to speak normally, her voice sounding like it always did. She picked up her phone and called home.

She lied breezily, saying she was having such a blast she totally forgot about home and was hoping to stay a few more days.

Sylvia could tell something was off with her lately and didn’t buy her story at all. Her tone turned sharp as she demanded Hathaway come home immediately.

Hathaway stubbornly insisted on staying out, refused to explain, and hung up on her mom.

After hanging up, she couldn’t help but let the tears fall, feeling wronged and frustrated.

Just then, the hospital room door swung open, and Jeremiah walked in. He immediately noticed the tear tracks on her cheeks and teased, “Crying again?”

Hathaway didn’t say a word. She lay there, phone still in hand, refusing to look at him.

Seeing her shut down, Jeremiah didn’t push it. He walked straight into the bathroom and hung up the clean clothes he’d brought from home on the rack inside.

Hathaway watched him, her heart skipping a beat.

“Is he planning to move in here?” she wondered. The thought made her panic, her mind spinning in a mess.

“Get lost! Leave! If it weren’t for you, I never would’ve gotten into that accident. It’s all your fault! Every bit of pain I’ve suffered, every miserable thing, it’s because of you.

“None of this would’ve happened if you hadn’t messed with me! I wouldn’t be hurting like this!” Hathaway shouted.

After what happened, Hathaway never wanted to see him again.

The air in the room went dead silent for a few seconds. Jeremiah’s gaze landed on her pale face.

Jeremiah said, “I had the scene thoroughly investigated. That truck did cross the line, but only because it was so big. There was enough space for you to pass safely. The real reason you crashed was that you were distracted.

“You were on the phone while driving, weren’t you? What could possibly be so important that you had to talk while going downhill? My calls never go through, but you’re quick to dial up other men.”

Jeremiah said, rolling up his sleeves, his eyes darkening. “Go ahead, I’ll give you a hard time to coordinate your stories yet.

“You and Calvin probably have already discussed what happened. Now you and I can see if your stories match up.”

Hathaway’s sandy, tear-welling eyes—

Just then, the caregiver came in to give her some water.

Jeremiah sat down by the bed, took the cup from the caregiver, and said softly, “Let me do it.”

Hathaway quickly called out to the caregiver, “Miss, can you help me with the water?”

But the caregiver acted like she didn’t hear a thing and walked right out.

Hathaway gripped the sheets, her body stiff. She still couldn’t sit up, so she leaned against the bed. Jeremiah pressed the straw to her lips. “Drink from it.”

Hathaway didn’t move.

“If you won’t drink this, I’ve got something else for you to try,” Jeremiah teased.

The water was warm. Hathaway took a few sips, then turned her face away.

Jeremiah set the cup down, his eyes on her. “I heard from Victor that your brother mentioned you’re thinking about going abroad?”

Hathaway coughed.

Before she could defend herself, Jeremiah said casually, “Actually, I’ve got work overseas too. We could go together. Might as well move in and save some money on rent.”

Hathaway’s heart dropped. “No, I was saying random stuff.”

Jeremiah replied coolly. “That’s good to hear.”

Her lips still glistened with a trace of water, soft and inviting. Jeremiah lowered his gaze, leaned in, and without warning, claimed her lips.
