The Billionaire Heir Fell for the Wrong Girl (Hathaway Whitmore) novel Chapter 178

Chapter 178

The night was deep, and the hospital room was so quiet that the only sound was the steady beeping of the machines.

Jeremiah sat on the companion bed beside Hathaway, his nerves finally relaxing after days of tension, and he drifted into a deep sleep.

In his dream, the world around him was bleak and cold, a biting wind chilling him to the bone.

A cold, solemn tombstone suddenly appeared before him, the inscription sharp and clear. [Here lies my beloved wife, Hathaway Blackwood.]

Jeremiah jolted awake, his chest heaving as he gasped for air.

He hurried to Hathaway’s bedside, leaning in to check if she was still breathing. Only when he felt her steady, warm breath did his nerves finally begin to relax.

Still, his heart fluttered with unease.

The next day, in the hospital room sofa, a mountain of contracts and reports was spread out before Jeremiah. His gaze was fixed on the documents, his profile cold and unyielding, not a trace of warmth in his expression.

Hathaway said coolly, “You don’t have to be here, you know. You’re busy.”

Jeremiah shrugged. “I’m here to help you wash up today, so I can’t skip.”

Hathaway’s eyes flew open in disbelief. “You’re going to wash me?”

“Yeah.

“The caregiver is here.”

“Some places need to be cleaned pretty thoroughly. Are you really okay with a stranger doing that?”

Hathaway practically screamed in frustration. “Jeremiah, are you trying to drive me insane? Does that make you happy, seeing me lose it?”

Day after day, his relentless pressure and torment wore her down, like being cut by a dull knife, slow, painful, death by a thousand cuts. Hathaway felt like she was about to snap.

Jeremiah’s gaze grew darker. “Come on, what’s there to be shy about? I’ve seen every inch of you.”

Hathaway said, “Call my mom. Let her come here. Get my mom here right now.”

Hathaway reached for her phone on the pillow, but before she could grab it, Jeremiah snatched it from her.

“Not yet. When you can get up, if your mom comes here, she’ll think it’s my fault, and she’ll bet us to be together, already.”

Hathaway, exhausted in both body and mind, waved him over. “Come here. I want to kiss you.”

Surprise flashed in Jeremiah’s eyes.

He leaned in to kiss her, and Hathaway gently wrapped her arms around his neck. But before he could react, she suddenly sank her teeth into his lip, biting down hard.

Her teeth sank into his lip, breaking the skin at the corner of his mouth; blood instantly oozed out.

Hathaway let out a soft, mocking chuckle, her eyes flashing with vengeance. “Like we were ever going to end up together.”

Just then, footsteps echoed from the hallway. The medical staff, drawn by the earlier scream, stopped in their tracks, only to stumble upon the intimate scene unfolding before them.

They froze, caught off guard.

When Hathaway met the doctor’s concerned gaze, her tough facade melted away. Tears welled up in her eyes as she begged, “I want my mom here.”

The medical staff looked uneasy, glancing at Jeremiah, whose presence was cold and intimidating. They hesitated before speaking, “Mr. Blackwood, about this…”

Jeremiah slowly wiped the blood from the corner of his mouth, his gaze brooding and suppressed. He finally relented, “Hold on for a couple more days. Once you’re strong enough to sit up by yourself, I’ll let your mom come.”

But his words didn’t comfort her at all. Hathaway’s eyes were hollow, filled with despair. Jeremiah, you make me want to die.

“I really want to die. I don’t deserve to be alive. Don’t you dare touch me! You disgust me. If you touch me again, I’ll jump out the window from the thirtieth floor.”
