The Billionaire Heir Fell for the Wrong Girl
Chapter 183 Driving
After dropping Scarlett off at the entertainment company, Jeremiah headed out.
Unexpectedly, he got a call from Hathaway.
“Mr. Blackwood, I recorded my chat with Scarlett and sent it to my sister-in-law. No matter what you try, she won’t buy it, and neither will anyone in my family,” Hathaway said coldly.
She hung up without another word, didn’t give Jeremiah another thought, and changed her number right away.
Of course, she was worried Celeste might get the wrong idea, so she didn’t actually send the recording to her. She just wanted to let Jeremiah know he couldn’t use this to threaten her anymore.
After that, she went home, had dinner, and logged on to contact Alan and the others, asking about the company’s current funds.
She wanted to buy a piece of land.
It was located directly south of Blackwood Group.
She knew for a fact that Jeremiah would soon snatch up this land to build the Blackwood Tech Data Center Tower.
The current Blackwood Tech Headquarters was way too far from the main office, and she figured Jeremiah was sick of all the back-and-forth. That was why, in her previous life, he was determined to have the new center built much closer to headquarters.
Back in her previous life, Jeremiah kept showing up at Mrs. Brooks’s door, trying to convince her to sell, but after all that back-and-forth, he still couldn’t seal the deal. Mrs. Brooks was dead set on keeping the land.
She wasn’t after the money. She just couldn’t let go of her hope. This land belonged to Brooks Holdings, and she wanted to keep it for her family, especially for her son, who was stuck in a coma. It was the only hope she had left for him.
She kept hoping her son would wake up someday, and when he did, at least he’d have something to his name. No matter how hard Jeremiah tried to persuade her, the old lady wouldn’t budge, not even a little.
Sadly, things didn’t turn out that way.
From what Hathaway knew, Mrs. Brooks’s son never woke up. In the end, Jeremiah managed to buy the land and put up the Blackwood Tech Data Center Tower right there.
Of course, things could always take a turn this time around, just like how she and her brother are still alive.
As for how things would play out, she’d already sent someone to keep an eye on Mrs. Brooks.
Hathaway worked for a while longer, then washed up and went to bed.
The next morning, Hathaway slipped out alone, wearing a baseball cap pulled low to hide most of her face. She drove straight to the men’s prison.
With the fake ID she’d arranged ahead of time, she walked right in without a hitch, despite the heavy security.
Magnus was a real heavy hitter, one of the few who almost had Jeremiah on the ropes.
And now, a guy like that was threatening to kill her?
She just couldn’t catch a break. If only she’d been reborn at a better time, she wouldn’t have to deal with all this trouble now.
The heavy, cold iron bars separated them. Hathaway stared through the chill of the metal, her eyes fixed on Magnus. He looked nothing like the arrogant, reckless man he used to be.
Hathaway smirked, “So, word is, the first thing you’ll do once you’re out is come after me?”
Magnus glanced up at the woman outside the bars, his eyes seething with years of suppressed fury. “You’ve got guts, coming here to see me on your own. If you hadn’t meddled in my business, I wouldn’t have spent three damn years locked up in this hellhole!”
He’d spiked Jeremiah’s drink and even set him up with a woman. But Jeremiah chose to jump into the sea and swim back instead. Magnus had watched the whole thing through his binoculars, and even sent someone over to check it out.
When he heard that Hau.. vay and Jeremiah were getting it on in some rundown motel, he couldn’t help but think, ‘Damn, Jeremiah really is one lucky bastard.’
‘I really regret saving Jeremiah back then, Hathaway thought. She smirked and said, “Why don’t you go ahead and try to kill him again?”
Magnus paused for a moment, then burst out laughing. “So, I heard Jeremiah’s head over heels for another woman. Is this what happens when love turns to hate, Ms. Whitmore? Tell me, what do I get out of killing him for you?”
Hathaway’s voice was flat as she laid out her offer. “Take out Jeremiah, and I’ll give you fifty million dollars.”
Jeremiah had bankrupted Whitmore Group in her last life, just for that alone, Hathaway knew she’d never forgive him.
Magnus’s face stayed calm, but there was a cocky glint in his eyes. “You really think my family’s hurting for money?”
