Chapter 186 A Visit
Jeremiah had just landed in Bayridge and walked into the office.
Nina reported on the past few days. “I’m sure Ms. Whitmore knows who I am. I drove her car, and she didn’t say a single word. She just handed me the keys and let me drive her off.”
Jeremiah frowned. She wasn’t the type to just go along with things. “You don’t think she just followed you because she thought you were good-looking, do you?”
Nina said, “No way. Ms. Whitmore doesn’t even like you, so there’s no way she’d like me.”
Victor was still trying to figure out if that was a compliment or an insult, but Jeremiah was left completely speechless.
Nina went on, “I even gave Ms. Whitmore a hug. She definitely knows I’m a woman.”
Victor glanced at Nina’s scrawny frame, wondering if she had any clue what she really looked like.
Jeremiah sat down in his office chair and looked over the documents Victor handed him.
Nina kept talking. “What’s even weirder is, when Sylvia had her accident, with Mr. Harper’s personality, he would’ve just called 911 and that’s it. He wouldn’t have been this anxious.”
Jeremiah leaned in and asked, “So you think Calvin’s just trying to score points with Hathaway by acting all eager?”
“No.” Nina thought, ‘Mr. Blackwood is really jumping to conclusions. How did he even come up with that?’
She was just wondering if maybe Calvin had something going on with Sylvia.
Jeremiah signed the papers without missing a beat. “Good. I don’t have time to worry about whether someone else is getting cheated on.”
He just needed to make sure he wasn’t the one getting cheated on himself.
Nina said, “But Ms. Whitmore was so anxious she passed out. It must mean a lot to her.”
Victor thought, ‘Nina really knows how to get straight to the point.’ Sure enough, Jeremiah stopped and changed his mind, saying, “Go look into it.”
Nina hesitated. “Ms. Whitmore always notices everything. Honestly, I’d feel a lot better if she just looked into this herself.”
Jeremiah replied, “She won’t. Even if she has doubts, she’d never suspect her own family. Loyalty and family ties mean she’d never really dig into it.”
“Alright, I’ll handle it,” Nina said. She couldn’t stand loose ends, but she’d already made sure to cover her bases.
The next day.
Hathaway was genuinely surprised when Nina showed up out of nowhere. Nina stayed calm and smoothly came up with an excuse.
“I think I left my Bluetooth earbud in your car the other day, Ms. Whitmore, so I came by to see if I could find it. It’s not worth much, but it was a gift from a friend who moved overseas, so I’m kind of attached to it.”
Hathaway was speechless.
At that moment, Hathaway was gently cradling the baby, her eyes showing a hint of surprise. Sylvia didn’t recognize Nina, so Hathaway explained, “We met before. Nina helped drive you to the hospital the day you gave birth.”
Sylvia, still holding her granddaughter, was instantly grateful and asked Mary to bring some coffee for their guest right away.
“That’s alright, Sylvia, you don’t have to trouble yourself.” Nina’s gaze fell on the soft, cuddly baby, and she gently cooed at the little one for a moment. Smiling, she asked, “She’s so adorable. Can I hold her for a bit?”
Sylvia carefully placed the baby in her arms.
But barely a few seconds after Nina took the baby, the little one burst out crying. Nina chuckled awkwardly and quickly handed the baby back. “Looks like I’m really hopeless with babies. Every time I hold one, they end up bawling.”
Just then, Avery came back. Nina said, “Mr. Whitmore, both Sylvia and your sister are tied up right now. Would mind coming with me to the car to help me look for my Bluetooth earbud?”

Hathaway watched Nina closely the entire time.
