Chapter 187 Enjoy
Hathaway said, “Let’s just eat here. We can just order room service. I really don’t want to go out.”
Jeremiah was a creature of habit. He never touched takeout and always stuck to his routine. When he heard Hathaway’s suggestion, he paused, just quietly watching her instead of answering right away.
His eyes were sharp and unreadable, easily catching the flicker of caution and guardedness in Hathaway’s gaze.
Deep down, she was timid and sensitive, probably just scared of bumping into someone she knew if they went outside.
After a moment of silence, Jeremiah lowered his voice and gently pulled her into his arms, his tone soothing. “Keeping this private for now is really for your own good.”
Hathaway looked at him in surprise but didn’t say a word.
Jeremiah took Hathaway’s slender, cool-to-the-touch hand and felt her tense for a few seconds. “Come on, I know a secret little kitchen nobody else knows about. Let’s sneak out together, just the two of us.”
Hathaway didn’t refuse this time. She let him lead her out of the office. The only people left on the top floor were Nina and Victor.
Jeremiah said, “You two can head out now.”
He was planning to drive himself, and Victor, seeing this, let out a quiet sigh of relief, quickly responded, and took his leave.
Hathaway followed him to a hidden little private kitchen, and she was still a little on edge.
Jeremiah had already picked up on the fact that whenever Hathaway was with her family, she’d turn into the sweetest girl ever, but around him, she was like a feisty little lioness, always bristling.
Now, seeing her actually relax and sit with him, even if she wasn’t exactly happy, felt like a small victory.
It wasn’t long before a variety of delicious dishes were brought out, their aroma filling the whole room. Jeremiah grabbed the serving spoon and started piling food onto Hathaway’s plate with gentle care.
“Eat up. You look like you’ve lost weight lately,” Jeremiah said.
‘Hathaway just nodded, still a bit shy.’
The meal dragged on quietly, with Jeremiah keeping the conversation going. Hathaway barely touched her food, her thoughts clearly elsewhere. By the time they finished, it was already late and the night outside was pitch dark.
After dinner, Jeremiah left the private kitchen with Hathaway and cruised through the city at night. At one point, he deliberately pulled over, walked into a convenience store, and picked up several boxes of the ultra- thin, extra-large kind.
The cashier, a young woman, had never seen a guy this good-looking buy so many at once. Her imagination instantly went wild with R-rated thoughts, and her cheeks flushed bright red.
Jeremiah didn’t care about the cashier’s reaction. He got back in the car and casually slipped a box into the glove compartment.
Hathaway sat in the passenger seat as his hand moved so close, his elbow nearly grazed her stomach. She saw everything, instinctively pressing her legs together, suddenly finding it hard to breathe.
Her lips parted, but she swallowed the words before they could escape.
Jeremiah’s lips curled into a faint, fleeting smile.
When they got to Inkwell Manor, Zara had already gone home since she didn’t have to cook anymore, so it was just the two of them in the house.
“We still haven’t hired any staff yet. Maybe you could handle it?” Jeremiah suggested.
“Is there anyone you trust?” he asked.
Hathaway shrank into herself, timid as a quail, not saying a word.
Once they got to the bedroom, Jeremiah sat down right next to her, his gaze fixed on her. “You can shower in here. I’ll use the bathroom next door.”
Hathaway nodded.
As soon as Jeremiah left, she quickly pulled her phone out of her purse, switched it to silent, glanced around, and tucked it under her pillow.
Hathaway went into the bathroom and just gave herself a quick wash.
When Hathaway stepped out, Jeremiah emerged from the bathroom, still wrapped in a haze of steam.
His torso was unapologetically bare, every muscle sharply defined, a white towel slung loosely around his hips. He radiated a lazy, predatory energy, mature, wild, and almost intimidating.
Before Hathaway could say a word, Jeremiah leaned in, pulling her down onto the soft bed with him. The mattress sank beneath them, and the room was instantly filled with a sultry, electric tension.
Hathaway gently pressed her hand against his chest, keeping him at bay.
‘Wait, don’t rush. I have a gift for you,’ Hathaway whispered.
