Chapter 19 Christmas Plans

V 10 Vourly’s

“Enough, I get it. Jessica is amazing. I hope she uses all that talent in the right place.” Hathaway frowned and closed the book. She didn’t want to discuss Jessica with Mia and simply said, “Mind leave me alone?”

Mia hated Hathaway’s snide tone the most. She shot Hathaway a hard glare.

It only made Mia feel even more that Hathaway couldn’t compare to Jessica in any way.

Mia was about to leave when Hathaway stopped her. “Wait.”

Hathaway looked at Mia’s flawless face, and the image of Mia from her last life flashed before her eyes. Back then, Mia was covered in blood and looked utterly miserable.

She glanced at the quiet girl in blue standing behind Mia and said, “There’s something I want to tell you.”

In her last life, Mia had been disfigured.

A sharp knife hidden inside her birthday cake had pierced her face, leaving it bloody and mangled.

Even after Jeremiah hired the best medical team, it didn’t work wonders.

“But I have no interest.” Mia knew Hathaway was probably going to say something to her to take Hathaway’s side. /

No matter what Hathaway tried to say, Mia was dead set on siding with Jessica.

“Let’s go,” Mia huffed, turning to snap at her two followers.

“Mia?” Just then, Lorenzo came over with the books he had picked out.

“Lorenzo, you’re here too?” Mia was delighted. It had never crossed her mind that Lorenzo and Hathaway had come together. She thought he had come alone.

Lorenzo replied, “I came with Hath.”

“What?” Mia’s eyes went right back to Hathaway. Looking at the two of them, she immediately understood something. “Hathaway, you’re impressive. Jeremiah and Lorenzo both work for you? How can you be so cheap?” Mia was so furious that she didn’t want to hear another word from Hathaway. “You couldn’t hook Jeremiah, so now you’re going after Lorenzo? Have some shame.”

“Mia!” Lorenzo’s face turned gloomy.

Mia stomped her foot. “I’m telling my mom.”

Then she turned and told her two followers to leave, before running off in a hurry.

Lorenzo usually had a pretty good relationship with Mia. Ever since she was little, Mia had been scared of Jeremiah and only clung to Lorenzo, so the two of them were fairly close.

He hadn’t expected Mia to be so rude to Hathaway. He said, “Sorry, Hath.”

Hathaway shook her head.

In her last life, Mia had been one of Jessica’s fangirls.

But after what happened at the birthday party, Mia had fallen into depression. She had changed completely. She wore a mask every day, refused to leave the house, and even tried to take her own life.

Her family and Jeremiah had each hired top medical experts for her. In the end, most of the damage was repaired, and with makeup, it could barely be hidden. But Mia’s violent temper had already taken shape, and her life had basically been ruined.

Hathaway sighed inwardly and asked, “When is Mia’s birthday?”

Lorenzo replied, “Late February. Still two months away.”

Lorenzo didn’t think much of it. He assumed she was asking because she wanted to attend Mia’s birthday. “My aunt will probably give her some money so she can go out with her classmates for her birthday. I’ll get her a gift.”

Hathaway thought there was still time, so she decided to leave it alone for now.

After all, her family’s problems mattered most right now.

“Are you buying all these?” Hathaway looked away and glanced at the thick stack of books in Lorenzo’s hands.

He replied, “Yeah. I still have to go back to my grandpa’s. I can read these to kill time.”

As they walked toward the counter, Lorenzo asked while checking out, “Hath, will you visit my grandpa during Christmas?”

Usually, she would visit Edmund every year. But this year, the visit would have to wait.

Thinking of the old man who wanted nothing more than for her and Jeremiah to get married, Hathaway fell silent and

shook her head. “I probably won’t go back. I still have things to handle.”

“OK.” Lorenzo glanced at the sky outside. After thinking it over, he was still worried about Mia, so he took out his phone and said, “I’m going to make a call.”

Hathaway gave a nod.

Lorenzo walked to the side and called Mia. “Stop wandering around. Wait for me where you are. I’m heading home anyway, so I’ll take you back. We’re supposed to spend the whole day eating with Grandpa.”

Mia was willing to spend time with her grandfather. She agreed on the other end, then added one last jab. “I thought now that you have a girlfriend, you’d forget me.”

Lorenzo hung up with a chuckle and said to Hathaway, “Let’s go back.”
