Avery and Celeste had been mingling with the guests in the hall, making sure everyone felt welcome and comfortable.
Calvin was the one who had saved Celeste’s life, so by rights, she should’ve thanked him herself. But instead, she had Avery thank him on her behalf.
Calvin, being the laid–back type, didn’t mind at all.
After Hathaway saw Evelyn and her group off, she came back to the hall. Calvin cut straight to the point, sounding a little rude. “Are you hanging around Jeremiah again? He and Jessica haven’t really broken things off yet. Do you really think Sylvia would approve?”
Hathaway shook her head. “It’s not what you think. I’m going to cut him off completely. Once I get Jessica out of Bayridge, I’ve already got a way to handle Jeremiah.”
Calvin frowned. “So what’s your plan?”
“No way I’m telling you,” Hathaway shot him a guarded look. “You and Jeremiah are buddies. What if you turn around and spill the beans to him?”
Calvin just shook his head, not buying it for a second. There was no way Hathaway could actually handle Jeremiah.
If she thought she had a plan, she was just fooling herself.
Hathaway grinned, “Would you lend me 70 million dollars if I asked?”
Calvin raised an eyebrow. “What could possibly cost that much?”
Hathaway smiled. “Thanks for coming today. I won’t keep you. Let’s catch up properly next time, and I’ll give you a real thank you.”
Calvin just stared at her, speechless.
The next afternoon, Hathaway slipped out quietly.
Jeremiah’s car was already waiting for her in the underground garage.
As soon as she got in, Victor quietly raised the partition.
Jeremiah was just idly browsing his tablet, not really up to anything, but as the partition slowly rose, he smirked and slipped an arm around Hathaway’s waist. “Looks like we shouldn’t disappoint the driver, huh?”
Hathaway frowned. “Can’t you just fire Victor?”
Jeremiah smirked. “Maybe I’ll just dock his pay.”
Honestly, Hathaway had no idea if he’d actually raise or lower Victor’s pay.

“Jeremiah, you never listen to a word I say. So from now on, I’m just going to go on a shopping spree.” Hathaway glanced at him, totally calm, not the least bit shy, and didn’t even bother to hide that she wanted a present.
“Come with me to the auction,” Hathaway said.
Her tone was casual, but she was clearly expecting him to foot the bill.
Jeremiah was a little surprised, so he gave the auction house a quick call. Sure enough, there was an auction happening right then. He told Victor to change course and drive them over.
Before getting out of the car, Hathaway slipped on an oversized mask and deliberately chose a seat as far from Jeremiah as possible.
“We can just call each other if we need anything,” Hathaway said lightly.
Throughout the auction, Hathaway went after whatever caught her eye, without a second thought. Rare paintings, one–of–a–kind jewelry, ultra–rare items, if she wanted it, she’d just call Victor to bid for her, without a care for the price tag.
Everyone else agonized over every bid, but Hathaway just threw out bids as she pleased. Jeremiah was right there, quietly covering for her, letting her splurge as much as she wanted.
By the end of the auction, she’d spent hundreds of millions of dollars like it was pocket change.
The other guests were secretly shocked, exchanging nervous glances and gossiping in hushed tones.
“Who’s Victor bidding for?” someone whispered.
“Come on, isn’t it obvious? It’s gotta be Mr. Blackwood’s girlfriend, Jessica,” another replied.
“Look, Mr. Blackwood’s right there,” someone else chimed in.
Everyone was floored. Jessica was so impressive, she had Jeremiah spending millions on her without even blinking.
But Hathaway remained completely unfazed, as if blowing through hundreds of millions was no big deal at all.
Victor watched, his eye twitching. ‘Ms. Whitmore really feels nothing when it’s not her own money. She actually has the guts to let the boss spend millions for her. That’s some next–level greed.‘
Even the most pampered heiresses knew how to keep things classy, but Hathaway just went all in, shamelessly feasting on the riches and splurging without a care in the world.
Back when Mr. Blackwood gave Jessica gifts, she’d accept them with poise, but she’d never be the type to openly ask for them like some gold digger.
Victor was totally baffled. He just couldn’t wrap his head around how Hathaway could open her mouth so wide, gobbling up whatever she fancied without even blinking.
