Her family was still waiting for her to explain why Jeremiah hadn’t given her the jewelry he’d bought at the auction for her.
Jessica was racking her brain for an excuse. ‘Maybe I can just say I didn’t bring it with me because it wasn’t safe, she thought.
She lowered her voice. “He kept it at his place.”
“He thinks I’ll end up living with him after we get married, so he just left it at his house for now.”
The Kingsley family looked relieved. Melanie nodded thoughtfully, then smiled in understanding. “Makes sense. The security at a hundred–billion–dollar estate must be a hundred times better than here.”
She turned to Elizabeth and said, “Places like that have bodyguards everywhere and top–notch security. It’s way safer than here. He was right not to bring it over.”
Preston frowned. “I heard Jeremiah went to the baptism for Avery’s twins?”
Jessica blinked in surprise. She hadn’t heard a thing about it.
Elizabeth looked genuinely shocked. “Wait, Avery’s kids are already a month old?”
She sighed, “Time really flies!”
Melanie’s face soured, feeling a bit overshadowed. “Avery managed to have two kids all at once in just three years, and I hear he treats his wife like a queen. What about you, Jessica? When’s your wedding? Any updates from the Blackwood family?”
Seeing Jessica’s face grow more and more uneasy, Elizabeth remarked offhandedly, “It’s pretty common for couples to date for seven or eight years before tying the knot these days.”
“We can’t afford to wait that long,” Melanie said, not about to let her daughter waste her youth waiting around.
“Next time, I’ll invite Eleanor for coffee and talk things over,” Melanie added.
Jessica blurted out, “No, you can’t!”
Preston frowned. “Are they still holding a grudge over the engagement party?”
Jessica shook her head. “No, it’s not that. Just let us handle it ourselves.”
Melanie sat quietly, watching her. She knew her daughter was always stubborn. Once Jessica made up her mind, it was almost impossible to change it.
“Fine, do whatever you want. Just remember, you can’t waste your best years waiting around,” Melanie said.

Meanwhile, Hathaway Whitmore gently scooped up the newborn swaddled in a blanket, every move soft and careful, afraid even the slightest touch might hurt the little one. Her sweet, squishy little niece was snuggled quietly in her arms, while her nephew was being held by the nanny.
Hathaway lowered her gaze, her eyes filled with gentle affection. She gently stroked the baby’s soft cheek with her fingertips, her voice barely above a whisper, warm and smiling.
“These two are just way too cute. Little Luis really takes after his uncle, and the baby girl well, it’s hard to tell for now, but I’m sure she’ll look just like her mom,” Hathaway said.
As if sensing her words, the baby in her arms moved its tiny hand, gently rubbing against her collar.
Mary smiled. “Hathaway, you look so gentle with the baby in your arms. You’re so patient with her.”
Nanny Monica chimed in, “Miss Hathaway, the way you hold the babies is just so gentle. It’s such a heartwarming sight.”
Nanny Viola added, “These twins are so lucky to have such a beautiful aunt holding them. They’re bound to be stunners when they grow up.”
Mary said, “You’re a natural at this. When you have your own kids, you’ll be such a gentle and caring mom.”
Hathaway was a little embarrassed by all the compliments, a faint smile still tugging at her lips. But when she heard that last comment, her smile faltered for a moment.
The baby had its eyes closed, breathing softly and evenly, its tiny pink nose just begging to be adored.
Hathaway’s expression stayed gentle, but a hint of loneliness flashed in her eyes, gone in an instant.
“Let me take her,” Celeste said with a smile, gently taking the baby and adjusting her in her arms. “It’s time for
