The Billionaire Heir Fell for the Wrong Girl (Hathaway Whitmore) novel Chapter 199

Chapter 199 The Ultimate Irony

Yvonne planted herself right in front of Hathaway. “If you don’t make that call for me today, I’m not leaving.”

Just as she finished speaking, Aurelia Sinclair pushed the door open, arms full of files. Yvonne flashed a smile and said “Hi,” showing she was in it for the long haul.

Hathaway couldn’t win against her, so she reluctantly picked up her phone.

As Hathaway dialed, Yvonne made her put the phone on the table and turn on the speaker.

Jeremiah’s deep voice came through the speaker. “Hey, master of disguise.”

Yvonne had no idea what Jeremiah meant by “master of disguise,” or what kind of weird joke he was trying to pull.

Hathaway didn’t want him to ramble, so she cut straight to the chase. “Can you let Magnus go?”

Jeremiah drawled, “Why bring him up out of nowhere? Is he supposed to be some kind of heartthrob or what?”

Hathaway and Yvonne exchanged a look.

Yvonne crossed her arms in an X, shook her head, and silently mouthed, “Ugly, ugly, ugly.”

Hathaway said, “He’s ugly.”

Yvonne nodded, thinking, ‘If Jeremiah has a thing for Hathaway, saying some other guy is handsome is basically digging your own grave. The only safe move here is to call him ugly.‘

Jeremiah said, “If he’s that ugly, just keep him locked up, no need to let him out and make you suffer looking at that eyesore.”

Yvonne’s lips twitched, speechless at Jeremiah’s comment.

Not giving up, Yvonne snatched a pen from the holder and quickly scrawled on a piece of paper: “Classmate. Good friend.”

Hathaway glanced at the note and said, “Look, I have this old high school friend. We used to be really good buddies back then. Now she’s come to me for help, but you’ve been keeping Magnus locked up, and honestly, it’s making things really awkward for me.”

Yvonne kept nodding in agreement, sneaking a thumbs–up to Hathaway, her eyes shining with approval.

Jeremiah asked on the other end, his tone flat. “Is this really bothering you?”

Hathaway glanced at Yvonne, who was still refusing to leave. “A little.”

Jeremiah said, “Why not just make up a reason and throw her in there with him?”

Yvonne clenched her fists, sprang to her feet, and made a face at the phone, visibly fuming with anger.

Jeremiah waited for a response, but when none came, his voice dropped a little as he called out, “Hathaway?”

After a brief pause, he asked again, his tone still flat, “Why so quiet all of a sudden?”

Hathaway was watching Yvonne throw a fit, entertained by her antics.

She snapped back to reality when Jeremiah spoke, quickly smoothing her expression. “Uh what am I supposed to say? You’re really putting me on the spot here.”

Jeremiah let out a low, almost mischievous laugh, clearly trying to mess with her. “Just give me a kiss and Magnus walks free.”

Hathaway was just about to hang up when Yvonne snatched the phone away. She puckered her lips in an exaggerated demonstration, looking just like a pouty fish begging for a kiss.

“Are you still there?” Jeremiah asked.

Hathaway kept quiet, so Yvonne, panicking, grabbed Hathaway’s head and pushed it right up to the phone. Her face was practically pressed against the screen.

Hathaway firmly planted both hands on the desk, digging in her heels and stubbornly holding her ground, no way was she getting any closer.

“Hathaway?” Jeremiah called out again.

Yvonne was just about ready to pretend she was Hathaway and make a loud “mua” kiss sound herself.

Hathaway’s face was burning hot, and before she knew it, she blurted out, “Um, how about I kiss you in person next time instead?”

Jeremiah’s voice came through, low and smooth. “Alright.”

Hathaway let out a huge sigh of relief and quickly hung up.

Yvonne let out a huge sigh of relief, threw her arms around Hathaway and did a little happy dance. “If I’d known it was this easy, I would’ve come to you ages ago.”

Yvonne said, practically bouncing with excitement, “Thank you so much! I promise, Magnus won’t bother you anymore. Honestly, I’m only doing this for my grandpa.
