Chapter 41 Don’t Go After Her
VTS Vunty
Hathaway was quite familiar with Celeste, but Celeste barely knew Hathaway. To Celeste, Hathaway was someone she’d met once, a total stranger. Hathaway decided not to bother her for now.
After shopping with Evelyn, Hathaway went back to the Whitmore family home.
She handed both sets of jewelry to Sylvia for safekeeping.
Sylvia beamed, “My daughter is so thoughtful.”
Hathaway pointed to the set. “Let’s save this one to give to Celeste when Avery marries her.”
Sylvia paused, a flicker of awkwardness crossing her face. She quietly had the maid put the jewelry away, then sat down and asked, “Are you sure Avery and Ms. Rivers will really get married?”
“Of course,” Hathaway replied, completely certain. After all, she could remember her previous life as if it were yesterday
Avery definitely married Celeste in her previous life. There was no question about it.
Hathaway didn’t linger on that topic and switched the conversation to the company. “How’s the company doing these days?”
Sylvia replied, “Everything’s going pretty well. The partnership with the Blackwood family has already started, and that visual inspection system project Killian’s working on is going great.
“The profits are better than we expected, so your dad’s been in a really good mood lately.”
“Glad to hear it,” Hathaway said, nodding with a smile.
After chatting with her mom for a bit longer, she was about to rest.
But Sylvia suddenly asked, “Hathaway, do you think you and Jessica could ever be friends again?”
‘Jessica?‘ Hathaway frowned and thought, ‘When did Mom start talking to Jessica again?‘
“No,” Hathaway replied.
Sylvia asked, “Why are you so hostile toward Jessica?”
Hathaway thought, ‘Jessica’s the one who really can’t stand me.‘
Sylvia said, “You were the one who chose to walk away from Jeremiah, so you shouldn’t be so hard on her.”
Sylvia thought Hathaway was in the wrong and tried to set her straight.
“Since you were the one who ended things with Jeremiah, why are you still upset? Are you still hung up on him, and that’s why you can’t let it go?” Sylvia pressed.
Hathaway cut her off flatly. “Have you seen her lately?”
“At a party two weeks ago, Jeremiah brought her along. Jessica asked about you. She seemed pretty friendly,” Sylvia replied.
Sylvia remembered that night. Everyone was crowding around Jessica, showering her with compliments since she might become the future Mrs. Blackwood. Conrad and Sylvia looked a little uneasy, but they didn’t say a word.
After all, they still had to work with the Blackwood family; it wouldn’t be smart to cause any drama Later on, Jessica was polite and attentive to her.
“Hathaway, Bayridge may be a big city, but you’re bound to bump into them sooner or later. And with us working with the Blackwood family now, are you really going to keep holding this attitude toward Jessica and Jeremiah?” Sylvia asked.
Sylvia looked uneasy, afraid that though Hathaway acted indifferent, she was still obsessing over it deep down.
Hathaway paused, then shook her head. “I can’t stand the kind of person Jessica is. And it’s not me. Mom, you should stay away from Melanie, too. She’s bad news.”
Hathaway remembered clearly how Melanie had ruined her mom in her previous life.
She never knew exactly what Melanie said, but after that, Sylvia’s mood went downhill fast. The more business the Kingsley family stole from Whitmore Group, the worse Sylvia’s mental state got. In the end, she had a complete breakdown.
Avery could barely keep up with everything at the company, and Hathaway was stuck in bed, too sick to help.
All the family responsibilities, big and small, somehow ended up on Celeste’s shoulders, even though she was pregnant at the time.

heart broke for Hathaway. The emotional strain and outside pressure kept building up until she finally snapped.
In the end, Hathaway knew she was also one of the main reasons for Sylvia’s breakdown.
“Mom, I promise I won’t let anything affect our partnership with the Blackwood family. I’m a little tired from everything today so I’m going to get some rest,” Hathaway said.
“Alright.” Seeing her daughter was exhausted, Sylvia didn’t press further and told her to go get some rest upstairs.
Hathaway went back to her room, put her things away, washed up, and lay down to rest.
She slept soundly, not a single dream. The next morning, after washing up, she went to find Avery.
When Avery came home last night, she was already in bed, so they hadn’t had a chance to talk. When Hathaway went to see him, Avery had gotten up and was struggling with his tie in his bedroom.
Seeing him fumbling with his tie while scrolling through his phone, Hathaway leaned against the doorframe for a moment before stepping in. “Here, let me help you, Avery.”
Avery’s eyes lit up when he heard her. He smiled at his sister, whom he hadn’t seen in a while. “Alright, you do it.”
“You should really learn how to do this yourself. You’ll need this skill someday,” he started to say.
But before he could finish, Hathaway had already tied his tie in a flash.
“Wait, you actually know how to tie a tie?” Avery blurted out, genuinely surprised.
Hathaway was already used to it.
In her previous life, she loved helping Jeremiah with his tie, ironing his suits, and bringing him fresh clothes, basically, everything a wife should do. Most of the time, though, Jeremiah didn’t care.
Hathaway patted Avery’s broad shoulder. “It’s like tying a scarf.”
Avery chuckled.
“So, how’s it been with Celeste while I was overseas?” Hathaway asked, thinking about running into Celeste yesterday.
“Pretty good,” Avery replied.
Hathaway asked, “What do you think of Celeste?”
“She’s nice, pretty easy to get along with,” Avery said.
Hathaway was really curious about how things were progressing between them. She couldn’t help but wonder if Avery’s reserved nature was making things move a bit too slowly.
“Have you met her parents yet?” she asked.
“I saw them when I dropped her off. We only exchanged a quick hello, but I didn’t go inside,” Avery replied. He didn’t think it was the right time yet.
