The Billionaire Heir Fell for the Wrong Girl (Hathaway Whitmore) novel Chapter 44

Chapter 44 The Ideal Candidate

When Hathaway got home, Celeste and Avery hadn’t arrived yet. Conrad came out in his loungewear.

The servants were setting the table, and Hathaway asked, Mom, is Celeste here yet?

Conrad chuckled, Can’t you see for yourself?

I was asking Mom,Hathaway said, her eyes fixed on the door, full of anticipation.

Sylvia laughed, You’ve asked that three times since you got back.

Just then, the sound of a car engine echoed from outside. Avery was back, and Celeste was with him.

Hathaway dashed outside right away.

Conrad and Sylvia, who had been sitting on the sofa, stood up as soon as they heard the noise, both wearing welcoming smiles.

Celeste followed behind Avery, greeted Conrad and Sylvia respectfully, then turned to Hathaway with a warm smile. Hi, Hathaway.

Hathaway swallowed the bitterness in her heart, reached out her hand, and affectionately called, Hi, Celeste.

They took each other’s hands.

As expected, Celeste brought gifts for Conrad and Sylvia, and also gave Hathaway a present.

Hathaway returned the gesture with a gift of the same style: Celeste was surprised, but she genuinely thought they were totally in sync, and it made her really happy.

Come on, let’s eat and chat,Conrad said, settling himself at the head of the table.

At dinner, Sylvia made sure Celeste felt comfortable, nudging Avery to pass her some food.

It was Celeste’s first time visiting, so she felt a little reserved.

Fortunately, Conrad and Sylvia were both super friendly. Conrad always seemed strict, but he was actually pretty easygoing once you started talking to him.

Celeste thanked Hathaway for the gift she got today, and also for the bracelet Avery had given her last time. It was clear Avery hadn’t tried to take credit. He’d told her the truth.

Hathaway said, Don’t mention it,shot Avery a playful glare, and then both she and Celeste burst out laughing.

Avery watched the scene, feeling pretty good. Looks like there won’t be any drama in our family, he thought. It’s honestly amazing how well they get along, though they barely know each other.

The table was filled with laughter and chatter, and the atmosphere was warm and lively.

Celeste felt truly touched. Over the past year, Whitmore Group’s financial reports had multiplied several times over, leaving her own family in the dust. Things were nothing like the old days when their families were equals.

She’d heard there was a whole line of rich heiresses being introduced to Avery, and her parents were constantly worried the engagement would fall apart. Celeste was always on edge, afraid Avery might suddenly call it quits.

Even though Avery had always treated her well and looked out for her, her relatives and parents were losing faith in the relationship. When her anxiety was at its peak, Avery suddenly invited her over to his house.

At dinner, Celeste could see how warm and friendly the Whitmore family was. Hathaway, who sat on her left, kept taking care of her, and between her and Avery, they piled so much food into her plate that it looked like a mountain.

After dinner, Celeste lingered a bit longer, having a chat with Sylvia before heading out.

Avery walked her to the door.

After they left, Sylvia gently stroked Hathaway’s hair as she leaned against her. Do you really like Celeste that much?

Yeah,Hathaway replied, biting into the last piece of cake.

Celeste is so graceful and gentle, and she’s totally devoted to Avery. Honestly, there’s no one better suited to be his wife, she thought.

Sylvia was genuinely surprised. Back when you were in college, you told Avery not to bring any girls home, saying you weren’t ready for his girlfriend yet and didn’t want him dating. And now look at you. How long has it been?

Successfully unlocked!

Did I really say that?Hathaway asked, not remembering at all.

Of course, you did. Would I ever lie to you?Sylvia said with a laugh.

I absolutely love Celeste now,Hathaway said, squeezing Sylvia’s hand. She’s so sweet and friendly, and she and Avery are a great match.

Looks like I should find someone to pick a good date for the wedding,Sylvia said with a big smile. Your dad met her today and really liked her too.

As Hathaway expected, her parents were totally on board with Celeste after meeting her.

The next day at work, Hathaway headed straight to Killian’s office.

Killian’s program had passed the comprehensive stress tests. Although it still wasn’t quite at the level she’d promised it gave Whitmore Group hope for their latest project.

Avery, who hadn’t thought much of Killian at first, was now convinced she deserved a big salary. He said he’d give Killian a raise once the project was completed.

Two months later, the Whitmore family took the initiative to discuss and set a wedding date. Both the Whitmore and Rivers families were pretty oldschool about these traditions.

Ever since Celeste’s first visit, the two families had started hanging out a lot more. Sometimes, after Avery dropped Celeste off after a date, he’d get pulled in for dinner at the Rivers residence.

Later on, both families agreed to skip the engagement and head straight for the wedding.

The wedding was definitely going to be a huge, extravagant event.

They picked out the perfect date, and ended up with a onceinacentury lucky day three months from now. The Whitmore and Rivers families immediately kicked off the wedding preparations in full swing.

In her previous life, Hathaway ended up getting married before Avery did. By the time Avery tied the knot, Hathaway had already gotten married. But this time, things were different.

The news that the Whitmore and Kingsley families were about to become inlaws spread to every corner of Bayridge in no

time.

In Jessica’s bedroom, Melanie looked at her daughter and sighed, Who would’ve thought Avery would be getting married

this soon?

Honestly, the reason I wanted you to get close to Hathaway and be her friend was all about getting you closer to Avery. Avery’s disciplined and rich. He’s the ideal husband. But now it’s Kingsley who gets to marry him.

Jessica smiled, quietly flipped a page in her book, and said softly, He’s rich, but can he hold a candle to Jeremiah?Melanie’s face brightened instantly, all regret gone. Jeremiah’s totally out of reach for anyone his age.

Ten Averys wouldn’t equal one Jeremiah.

You are so amazing, honey. You are aiming for the top, the man nobody else can dream of in Bayridge,Melanie said, full of pride.

Jessica smiled at that.

But I doubt we’ll get invited to the wedding,Melanie said, knowing full well that Jessica had stolen the guy the Whitmore family wanted as their soninlaw.

Plus, the Kingsley family had snatched some business deals from them. On the surface, everyone was still polite, but behind the scenes, things were pretty much falling apart.

There was no way the Whitmore family would send the Kingsley family an invitation.

Doesn’t matter.Jessica honestly couldn’t care less.

The next day at work, Jessica was about to walk into the CEO’s office with some files when she overheard Calvin Harper saying, I heard Whitmore Group’s been so slammed with orders lately, they’ve had to hand some off to other companies.
