The next day was Saturday.

Every week, Hathaway would meet up with Lorenzo.

After their date, she dropped him off at home as usual and was about to leave when Eleanor noticed Hathaway’s car outside. Hathaway, it’s been a while since you last visited. Why don’t you come in and stay for a while?

Hathaway exchanged a glance with Lorenzo.

Hathaway sensed Eleanor wanted to talk, so she nodded.

As Hathaway expected, once they got inside, Eleanor told Lorenzo to head upstairs first. Lorenzo, why don’t you go on up I want to have a little chat with Hathaway.

Once Lorenzo was upstairs, Eleanor sent the servants out and poured Hathaway a glass of water herself. She asked warmly, Hathaway, where did you and Lorenzo go today?

We went to the racetrack and then the movies,” Hathaway replied honestly, sitting on the couch.

You must’ve gone out of your way for him. I get the feeling places like that aren’t really your thing, are they?

Actually, I kind of like them.

Hathaway cradled the cup in her hands and quietly took a sip.

Eleanor watched as Hathaway answered her questions, noticing that the sweet, familiar way she used to call her was gone. She sighed, Hathaway, you’ve really changed a lot. I know it’s all Jeremiah’s fault, but do you really know Lorenzo?Hathaway was taken aback and thought, So today she wants to talk to me about Lorenzo?

Actually, Lorenzo once cared deeply for another girl. Now, he still hasn’t moved on from that relationship,” Eleanor said. Hathaway’s lips quirked in the faintest hint of a smile as she thought, That’s impossible.

In her previous life, all the way until the end, Hathaway had never once heard anything about Lorenzo having a girlfriend or being interested in anyone.

That was exactly why, this time, she felt comfortable pretending to be his girlfriend.

She’d lived in this house for years, saw Eleanor every day, and not once had she ever heard Eleanor mention Lorenzo liking

anyone.

But why would Eleanor suddenly bring this up out of nowhere?Hathaway wondered. Is she trying to keep Lorenzo and me apart?

Keeping her tone even, Hathaway asked, So, what happened to that girl? Where did she go?

Eleanor was stumped by the question and clammed up. She didn’t say another word.

Hathaway was now sure this girl was made up.

Honestly, Bayridge’s social circle is so small. If Lorenzo ever liked some rich girl, she’d have heard about it ages ago.

Hathaway set the cup down gently.

As Hathaway was about to say her goodbyes, Lorenzo came downstairs with his backpack. Spotting her still there, he said, Mom, Hathaway has an event to attend tonight. She should probably head back early.

Eleanor stood up with a smile. Look at you, being all protective. Can’t stand to see her leave, huh? Alright, Hathaway, thanks for putting up with us today. I’ll be at the event tonight, too, so see you there.

Goodbye, Eleanor,Hathaway said.

She turned to Lorenzo. Where are you headed? Want a ride?

I’m crashing at a friend’s place for a couple of days. It’s around the corner, so I’ll walk,Lorenzo replied.

Hathaway smiled at Eleanor, then left the Blackwood residence and drove back to her own place.

When Avery got home, Hathaway brought it up. Hey, Avery, have you ever heard anything about Lorenzo having a girlfriend before?

Avery looked puzzled, obviously had no idea, either. No, never heard of it.

Hathaway went back to her room to think things over, then gave Leo a call. He was in Dilwaina, and the background noise was pretty loud.

She had to ask him several times before he finally understood. You mean, did Lorenzo ever like anyone? Nope, never heard

Chapter 45 The Charity Ambassador anything like that.

Leo said the same thing as Avery. That finally put Hathaway’s mind at ease, and she hung up. Honestly, it didn’t add up. Back in her previous life, after she married Jeremiah, she lived under the same roof as Lorenzo. Not only did she never see him with a girlfriend, but she never saw him with any female friends.

Lorenzo was the type who kept to himself. His hobbies were basically studying, watching car races, and horse races.

But why would Eleanor lie about something like this?she wondered. Hathaway couldn’t make sense of it. She didn’t want to waste any more energy trying to figure it out.

There was a gala that night. It was organized by a charity and was a massive event, drawing all the business moguls together.

Hathaway wore a pastel lilac gown that brought out her fresh, graceful beauty.

Walking in with Avery, the thought of what might unfold at tonight’s gala made her subconsciously squeeze his arm a little tighter.

What’s wrong?Avery leaned in and asked.

Hathaway shook her head. She remembered the despair and resentment she’d felt on this very day in her previous life.

Tonight, Jessica would publicly announce her role as Monarcia’s charity ambassador at the gala. Even Reginald and Eleanor would end up accepting her.

Hathaway remembered how crazy she’d once been for love, and her heart ached. She took a moment to pull herself together before following Avery inside.

As soon as they walked in, she saw Reginald and Eleanor chatting animatedly with Bernard and Olivia, while Conrad and Sylvia were already there, too.

Like in her previous life, Hathaway went around greeting all the elders one by one.

Hathaway, you look gorgeous,Olivia exclaimed. Youth is such a blessing. Your skin is so smooth. Having a daughter is wonderful. She’s as pretty as an angel, not like my grumpy son.

As she spoke, she shot Calvin a sideways glance. Calvin was her only child, and he was always so reserved and stoic.

Olivia couldn’t help but envy Sylvia for that. Mrs. Whitmore, I really envy you, lucky enough to have both a son and a daughter. Not like me, stuck with one.

Sylvia smiled and replied, Calvin is so outstanding. He’s as good as two kids. Honestly, Mrs. Harper, I’m a little jealous of you.

While the two women traded compliments, Eleanor hovered nearby, flashing her usual polite social smile.

Just then, there was a small commotion at the entrance of the ballroom.

Reginald and Eleanor turned to look and saw Preston and Melanie walking in with a young woman.

Is that Ms. Kingsley with them? Honestly, she doesn’t look all that special.

No way, I’ve seen Ms. Kingsley before. She’s way prettier than that.

Jessica is gorgeous and has that cool vibe. She’s definitely not the shy, demure type.

Reginald and Eleanor exchanged a look. She was their son’s rumored girlfriend, and they couldn’t help but pay a little extra attention.

But when they saw it wasn’t Jessica, Reginald’s interest faded immediately. He turned away, smiled at Bernard, and started chatting about something else.

It wasn’t long before another buzz swept through the entrance of the hall. This time, the excitement practically exploded. Hathaway didn’t need to look. Only Jeremiah could make an entrance like that.

Sure enough, everyone in the ballroom turned their attention to Jeremiah and Jessica as they entered.

Jessica wore a midnightblue gown adorned with shimmering rhinestones, sparkling like a sky full of stars. With every eye in the room on her, she remained unfazed, her face serene and composed.

Her elegance was subtle yet regal, making her presence impossible to ignore.

That’s Ms. Kingsley, and she’s here with Mr. Blackwood.
