Chapter 48 Kick Her Out
It was late at night when Jeremiah’s car pulled away from the villa.
At the club, a group of guys was gathered around Jeremiah, all out for drinks.

One of them, lounging on the leather sofa across from Jeremiah, leaned in and said, “Jeremiah, want to teach Hathaway a lesson?”
Lucas shot the guy a look. “Jeremiah knows what he’s doing. Stay out of it.”
Jeremiah didn’t say a word. He tipped his head back and took a few big gulps of his drink, the fiery liquid burning down his
throat.
For some reason, he couldn’t help but picture Hathaway crying on the floor by Conrad’s feet, her face tilted up and streaked
with tears.
‘Forget it, Jeremiah thought.
Just then, the female server in charge of the VIP room walked in with a tray of drinks. The moment she caught sight of Jeremiah’s model–perfect face, she spaced out for a second.
But she quickly pulled herself together, bowed slightly, and quietly set the drinks down.
Just then, someone asked, “Jeremiah, is it true that if you don’t marry Hathaway, you’ll lose thirty percent of the Blackwood Group’s shares?”
Jeremiah lowered his gaze. He didn’t take the Blackwood Group seriously. Edmund’s schemes weren’t worth his attention. His real empire was Blackwood Tech, Blackwood Medical, and the entertainment business, all of which he owned 100
percent.
Jeremiah tossed the empty bottle onto the coffee table with a dull thud, then got up and slipped into the shadows. “I’m heading back.”
“Jeremiah, aren’t you going to stay a bit longer?” someone called after him.
“Nah,” Jeremiah replied.
Lucas immediately called out to the only woman in the room. “Can you drive?”
The girl looked a little surprised, then replied, “Yeah, I can.”
Lucas casually pulled a few bills from his wallet and stuffed them into her hand. “Make sure you get him safely to the Blackwood Villa.”
The lights in the VIP room were dim.
Lucas looked up, surprised by how striking the server was. She wasn’t one’s typical club beauty. There was a fresh, almost pure quality to her, the kind of stunning that lingered in his mind.
The girl took the cash, murmured a quick thanks, and hurried after Jeremiah.
Jeremiah had barely left when, a few minutes later, Jessica rushed in.
Lucas let out a sigh. “You two really are a pair of star–crossed lovers.”
Jessica bit her lip.
Jeremiah’s parents had finally started to come around, and she really didn’t want all that progress to go to waste because of Edmund.
Jessica’s heart raced. “What should I do?”
Lucas said, “Here’s what you should do. Don’t bother looking for Jeremiah tonight. Everyone’s exhausted, and at least Hathaway didn’t cause a scene. Tomorrow, do this instead.”
Early the next morning, Jessica showed up at the Blackwood residence.
Her light makeup barely covered the fatigue on her face; the dark circles under her eyes and the weariness etched between her brows made it obvious she hadn’t slept at all.
“Why are you here?” Jeremiah asked in surprise when the servant announced her.
Jessica bit her lip, her voice trembling with concern. “I can’t let you take all the blame by yourself.”
Jeremiah’s brows furrowed as he saw her trying to stay strong. He put an arm around her shoulders.
Chapter 48 Kick Her Out

Reginald and Eleanor came over when they heard the voices. Seeing Jessica so full of genuine emotion, they couldn’t help but be touched.
Reginald let out a sigh. “Zane, take Ms. Kingsley to Jeremiah’s room and don’t let her come out.”
Then he headed straight for Edmund’s room.
Lorenzo had gotten back from his morning run, a towel slung around his neck. He’d been out last night and had no idea what had happened at home. He only got back after grabbing a late–night snack with his friends.
It had been a while since he’d seen Jeremiah. All he caught was Jeremiah’s back as he headed into his room/Lorenzo called out quietly, “Hi, Jeremiah,” but Jeremiah didn’t seem to hear him and walked straight in without looking back.
It hit Lorenzo that he had those books Hathaway told him to return.
He went back to his room, grabbed the books, and knocked on Jeremiah’s door. “Hey, Jeremiah, Hathaway borrowed these from you and asked me to give them back.”
The door was already open, and Jessica looked up, smiling warmly at him.
Lorenzo was caught off guard. Jeremiah never let anyone he didn’t know into his room, and now there was a woman hed never seen before sitting inside.
Jessica turned to Jeremiah, her voice soft. “Mind if I take a look?”
Jeremiah took the books from Lorenzo and handed them to Jessica. “Keep them.”
Jessica smiled, “Thanks.”
She was pretty satisfied with how Jeremiah reacted. It was obvious he didn’t care about Hathaway at all.
On the other side, after Reginald had a private conversation with Edmund, Edmund roared, “Kick her out.”
Jessica hugged the books to her chest, shrinking back as her smile disappeared.
Jeremiah was fiercely protective. His expression turned icy, lips pressed into a razor–sharp line.
“Come on, let’s go,” Jeremiah said, grabbing Jessica’s hand and leading her downstairs. “Forget work today. I’ll take you out.” “No, I can’t,” Jessica protested, pulling her hand free. “I’ll wait for you at the office. Please don’t fight with your grandpa.” But Jeremiah wasn’t about to let his girlfriend leave alone. He grabbed his coat, took her hand, and dragged her out to skip work with him.
Meanwhile, at the office, Hathaway was running one meeting after another.
She cut all the non–core projects that weren’t going to make any money in the future. And sure enough, those projects never made a dime in the years that followed.
Of course, Conrad wasn’t happy about it, and they got into a heated debate again.
But Hathaway pulled up the core data from the past six months. Those projects really weren’t making any money, and the costs didn’t justify the returns.
Conrad tried to convince her that the projects would eventually be profitable, saying she shouldn’t focus on short–term results. But Hathaway stood her ground.
No one had a clearer picture of the next few years than Hathaway herself.
Conrad was honestly surprised to see Hathaway so focused on work. After everything that went down last night, he thought she’d be way too upset to care about work right now.
That evening, Hathaway got home from the office.
