He left the threat hanging, but anyone with half a brain could guess what he’d do next.

Jeremiah had never been the forgiving type. Those guys who tossed him off his yacht last year were still stuck in the hospital after a whole year.

Lucas quickly stepped between them. “Jeremiah, I’m pretty sure it was Evelyn. Hathaway’s too timid Evelyn’s the one with guts.”

“Guts, my ass,” Hathaway snapped at Lucas. But before she could say more, Lucas clamped a hand over her mouth

Just then, the light above the operating room door turned off, and the doctors wheeled Jessica out. Jeremiah didn’t look back at the others. He rushed straight over to her.

At the same time, Melanie arrived, bringing both the Kingsley and Thorne families with her, all of them hurrying in.

When they saw Jessica lying there unconscious, the Kingsley family all looked grim.

“Hathaway, this is all your fault. We were only apart for a moment, and look what happened,” Melanie snapped. “If things had been any worse, my daughter could’ve lost her life.”

Melanie raised her hand, and Hathaway closed her eyes, resigned to the slap she was about to get.

But instead of the slap she expected, Lucas stepped between them, his gaze cold. “Let’s wait until we catch the driver.”

Melanie immediately looked at Jeremiah, who didn’t react at all, as if he agreed with Lucas.

Only then did Melanie awkwardly lower her hand. This was her first time meeting Jeremiah, and she wanted to make a good impression on him. “Alright.”

Melanie clenched her fists and added, “But if it turns out Hathaway was behind this, Mr. Blackwood, you have to make her pay for what she did to Jessica.”

Jeremiah nodded. “I will.”

With his promise, Melanie, Felix, Elaine, Spencer, and the rest of the family all followed him into the hospital room to check on Jessica.

Before heading in, Elaine shot Hathaway a vicious glare.

Once everyone was inside, Hathaway lingered in the hallway for a moment, then bolted. She knew Jessica would make it out alive.

After checking on Jessica and chatting with the doctors, Jeremiah made sure she was safe before heading back to the office.

Once Jeremiah left, Lucas didn’t want to stay any longer. He said his goodbyes to the Kingsley family and headed out, too.

Jessica woke up not long after, her family by her side. With tears in her eyes, Melanie said, “Jessica, you’ve suffered so much. It has to be Hathaway’s doing. Everything you’ve been through is because of her.”

Elaine said, “The more she acts out like this, the more Jeremiah will be annoyed by her.”

Melanie added, “No matter what she does or how hard she tries, it’s pointless. You didn’t see the way Mr Blackwood was glaring at Hathaway now. He looked like he wanted to eat her alive.”

Jessica paused, then gave a faint smile. “Really?”

“You can still smile?” Felix said, surprised to see her in such a good mood.

He thought, ‘My usually icy sister must be totally lovestruck!

“Where’s Jeremiah?” Jessica asked.

“He said to call him as soon as you woke up, and he’d come right over. He’s tied up with something urgent at the office right now. Felix, hurry up and call him,” Melanie said.

“Wait, don’t.” Jessica quickly stopped him. “He’s swamped with work. The project’s at a really critical point. Let him focus.” “Jessica,” Elaine said, clearly moved, “you’re always so tough, always thinking of everyone else before yourself.”

Jessica smiled, “What doesn’t kill me only makes me stronger.” She was the kind who thrived on adversity. If it made Jeremiah hate Hathaway more, then all this pain was worth it.

“No wonder Jeremiah fell for you, Jessica,” Elaine said, clicking her tongue in amazement. “Now that’s what a future M Blackwood should be like.”

“Come on, don’t say stuff like that,” Jessica muttered, her usually calm face flushing with embarrassment. She turned her head slightly, avoiding everyone’s gaze, and cleared her throat.

“Alright, stop chatting with Jessica and let her drink some water,” Melanie said.

Felix hurried over and passed Jessica some warm water. Jessica drank a bit and felt a lot better.

Just then, the hospital director and the chief doctor came in. They gave Jessica a thorough check–up and said. “There’s nothing serious, Ms. Kingsley. Make sure you get plenty of rest.”

“We’ll run another check–up later, to be safe,” the chief doctor added.

The director turned to the chief doctor and said, “Make sure the CT room is nice and warm later. We don’t want Ms. Kingsley catching a chill.”

Melanie smiled warmly. “Thank you, doctors.”

Even though Jessica felt a bit let down that Jeremiah wasn’t there when she woke up in the VIP suite, she knew the doctors would call him soon. After all, she was his girlfriend.

Sure enough, twenty minutes later, Jeremiah showed up.

The hospital director and chief doctor straightened their coats, looking as tense as if they were about to face a firing squad. then came in to give Jessica another thorough examination.

With utmost respect and caution, they said, “Mr. Blackwood, please rest assured. We’ll use only the best medicine and assign our top medical staff to make sure Ms. Kingsley’s injuries are kept to an absolute minimum. We won’t let anything go wrong.”

“You may all leave now,” Jeremiah said coolly.

After everyone left, Jeremiah turned to her and asked, “How are you feeling?”

Jessica’s face was still pale, but there wasn’t a hint of complaint or self–pity in her eyes. “I’m fine.”

Elaine quickly jumped in, “Fine? You don’t look fine at all, Jessica. You must be in so much pain. And remember that time at the café? Hathaway’s friend gave you a hard time, and you never even…”

“Elaine, that’s enough,” Jessica cut her off.

Jeremiah said, “I’ll make sure you get the answer you deserve.”

Preston and Melanie said, “Now we can finally relax.”

Seeing how the doctors and nurses were practically bending over backwards for them, the Kingsley family finally relaxed. Clearly, everyone at the hospital knew exactly how important Jessica was now.

Jeremiah stayed for another half hour before finally leaving. When he stepped out, Preston was waiting in the hallway The two talked for a bit.

After Jeremiah left, Lucas sent someone over with a bouquet.

Elaine said enviously, “I’m so jealous of Jessica. She’s had guys falling for her ever since we were little. If I had so many great guys around me, it’d almost be worth getting run over by a car.”
