After Whitmore Group’s stock kept soaring to the daily cap, its products started flying off the shelves. It happened as Avery was getting married.

Conrad took the opportunity to retire and handed over the reins to his son.

At noon, Hathaway went out for lunch. As soon as she arrived at the restaurant, she spotted Jeremiah, Jessica/Melanie, and Elaine all together. Melanie was leaning in, saying something to Jeremiah, who smiled and nodded.

Since there were so many of them, they headed to a private room.

Hathaway was by herself. Even if she was alone, she wasn’t about to skimp on herself.

Thinking back to her previous life, when she’d wasted away to skin and bones and couldn’t absorb any nutrition no matter what. Hathaway decided to order enough food to cover the whole table

But as Hathaway was about to start eating, her phone rang, forcing her to leave befo

Duty called, so Hathaway left without tasting a single dish.

right now, and Mr. Lockwood is here

Jessica had noticed Hathaway dining alone earlier. When she went to the restroom and passed through the main hall, Hathaway was already gone, and the waitresses were clearing away her untouched dishes.

Jessica was momentarily taken aback.

Elaine was accompanying Jessica to the restroom. Before they got inside, they overheard two waitresses gossiping.

“Ms. Whitmore ordered a whole table of food, paid for it, and left without taking a bite.”

“Then what was she doing here?”

“Maybe she saw something that ruined her appetite. That’s like the Whitmore heiress, even though this is a five-star

restaurant.”

As soon as Jessica and Elaine walked into the restroom, the two waitresses fell silent and hurried out, heads down, trying not to be noticed.

Once they were out, Elaine said, “Jessica, I bet Hathaway saw Jeremiah with you and got so mad she left without touching her food.”

Jessica smiled. She was thinking the same thing. Hathaway was far from indifferent to Jeremiah, no matter how much she tried to act like it. Her indifference was all a facade she put on.

She only acted all high and mighty because she didn’t want to embarrass herself. ‘Who knows what she’s calling me in her head right now?’ Jessica wondered.

Once Jessica realized this, her mood instantly lifted. “Forget about her. Let’s go eat.”

Meanwhile, Hathaway hosted Hadrian at the office.

The meeting went smoothly. Hathaway quickly brought out the contract, and once both had signed, Hadrian reached out his hand. “We’ve always had faith in Whitmore Group’s products. Here’s to a great partnership.”

Hathaway smiled warmly as she shook his hand. “Here’s to a great partnership.”

“Congratulations on your brother’s upcoming wedding.”

“Yes, be sure to bring your wife and attend the wedding, Mr. Lockwood.”

“Of course.”

After wrapping up the deal and seeing Hadrian off, Hathaway suddenly realized she was starving. She hadn’t eaten yet.

She asked Aurelia to order some takeout.

Just then, Conrad walked in and overheard Hathaway asking for takeout. He frowned. “Hathaway, why are you being so hard on yourself? Come on, I wrapped up a business dinner, but I barely ate anything. Let’s grab something together.”

Hathaway agreed with a smile. “Sounds good.”

On the way to the restaurant, Conrad’s driver drove them. Worried the place might close, Hathaway called ahead and asked them to prepare the same spread she’d ordered earlier.

It had only been about two hours since Hathaway left and came back.

When they arrived at the restaurant, Conrad and Hathaway got out of the car.

Jeremiah, Jessica, and the others were leaving the restaurant.

Jessica immediately noticed Hathaway, who was smiling brightly and holding onto her father’s arm. Whatever Conrad had said to her, it must have made Hathaway genuinely happy. Her smile was impossible to ignore.

Conrad was openly delighted with his daughter.

Jessica frowned and glanced at Jeremiah.

Luckily, Jeremiah glanced at Hathaway and looked away, not seeming interested at all.

Jessica let out a quiet sigh of relief. Seeing how cold Jeremiah was toward Hathaway actually put Jessica at ease.

Melanie had met Conrad a few times before. Back when the Kingsley family first moved to Bayridge, they used to visit the Whitmore family a lot to build connections.

When Jeremiah greeted Conrad, Melanie gave a polite smile and greeted him as well. Conrad nodded in response.

Soon, the two groups went their separate ways.

After Conrad and Hathaway sat down in the restaurant, Hathaway asked, “Dad, did you see that, too?”

Conrad nodded. He had noticed that Jeremiah was being especially attentive to Melanie. He opened the car door for her when they were getting in.

That was exactly the kind of attitude you’d expect toward a future mother-in-law.

“So when are we actually going to return the ring?” Hathaway asked.

Hathaway knew that unless her father stepped in to break off the engagement, it wouldn’t really count. If it were only her, people would think she was being a dramatic kid. No one would take it seriously.

Even when she’d brought it up with Edmund, he hadn’t given her a straight answer.

Conrad quietly placed some dishes onto Hathaway’s plate. He had once asked his wife what she thought about Hathaway,

who kept bringing up breaking off the engagement.

To his surprise, after hesitating for a while, his wife finally said, “Then let’s go ahead and call it off.”

She added, if Jeremiah’s girlfriend were someone else, maybe Hathaway could still stand a chance, but since it was Jessica. who was really something, there was no way to compete.

Besides, Hathaway and Jessica used to be good friends.

Hathaway never said it out loud, but she was fiercely loyal. If a friend liked a guy, she’d never consider going after him. Tha was how she was.

Conrad felt a little uncomfortable hearing that. To him, Hathaway was as impressive as anyone. Especially lately, the way she handled things at work and made tough calls had really made him see her in a whole new light.

It was a pity, though.

He genuinely admired Jeremiah, but Jeremiah wasn’t destined to be part of the family. Since Hathaway didn’t want it, Conrad wasn’t about to push her.

“Once Avery’s wedding is over, I’ll head over to the Blackwood Mansion. But for now, let’s

cheat,” Conrad said.

Hearing her father say that, Hathaway let out a sigh of relief. She sweetly began to eat, picking up her food.

After Hathaway and Conrad finished their meal and stepped out, Hathaway got some good news.

She’d already filed for several patents, and now the patent for the smart component had finally come through.

In her previous life, this was a patented product of Blackwood Tech. But this time, she’d managed to beat them to it.

Hathaway knew better than anyone how sharp Jeremiah’s tactics could be. With the Blackwood family’s influence in both business and politics, she had no choice but to make this move first.

This time, Hathaway was all about hiring new talent, snatching up patents, and shaking things up. She was determined to make a real change.

When she heard the patent had finally been approved, Hathaway finally felt the weight off her shoulders. Her mood brightened right away.

After eating and grabbing the patent notice, Hathaway headed over to the R&D department. She and Killian jumped right into work.

Two hours later, Hathaway got a call from Avery. “Hey, Hathaway, the table count for the wedding doesn’t match up. The hotel says they don’t have a hall for eighty tables. You told them thirty when you booked.”

Hathaway blinked, a little confused. “Didn’t we settle on thirty tables? How did it turn into…”

She suddenly cut herself off.

Hathaway had booked the hotel based on the thirty tables from Avery’s wedding in her previous life.

‘Eighty tables? Seriously? There are way more guests showing up this time?’ she thought.

Maybe it was because they hadn’t completely burned bridges with the Blackwood family, and the Whitmore family’s business was still thriving, so way more people wanted to attend the wedding.

Hathaway quickly said, “Avery, good thing we haven’t sent out the invitations yet. We can switch hotels. I’ll head over to the hotel now, okay?”
