As soon as Hathaway opened the door to the CEO’s office, she saw Jeremiah leaning in slightly, listening to Jessica,
They were probably talking about work; both of them focused on the documents spread out on the desk. But Jessica’s long, delicate hair brushed against Jeremiah’s shoulder, making the atmosphere feel a bit more intimate than it should be.
Hathaway paused for a moment, then gritted her teeth and walked in. “Mr. Blackwood, hope I’m not interrupting.”
Jessica heard Hathaway’s voice and pat away the documents, but didn’t leave. Instead, she gave Hathaway a/cool, direct look.
“What is it?” Jeremiah asked calmly.
“The party my family booked was originally set up with round tables, but now we want to switch to long tables with a semi- buffet. Could you let the hotel know?” Hathaway said.
Before Jeremiah could say anything, Jessica frowned and snapped, “You seriously came all the way here for something this minor? Couldn’t you call the hotel yourself?”
“My brother’s on a business trip, and the hotel people probably wouldn’t her excuse ready before she came in.
Cognize me,” Hathaway replied, already having
Jessica gave a little laugh at that, thinking, ‘Yeah, right. Like that’s the real reason. She really came all the way here to report something this minor to Jeremiah? Obviously, she wants an excuse to see him again!
Jeremiah’s face stayed perfectly calm as he looked at Hathaway. “Alright, I got it.”
“Sorry, but this is really important for Avery and his wife. I can’t risk anything going wrong, so I’d like to stay until you finish the call,” Hathaway said.
The air went quiet for a moment.
Jeremiah looked at her for a few seconds, then picked up the phone and called the hotel.
The hotel manager, of course, answered with the utmost respect and promised there wouldn’t be a single mistake.
Hathaway let out a sigh of relief. “Thank you, Mr. Blackwood. Thank you, Ms. Kingsley. Avery and his wife cordially invite you both to their wedding.”
With that, she turned and walked out, not bothering to check their expressions.
Jessica stared, lost for words.
Jeremiah glanced at Jessica. If he remembered correctly, Hathaway used to call him Jeremiah and Jessica. Now, she was suddenly all formal with them.

As soon as Hathaway stepped out, she immediately spotted Lucas standing outside with an amused yet cold expression.
Hathaway ignored him completely.
She walked straight to the elevator and pressed the button. While she was waiting, out of nowhere, Lucas appeared behind her, snatched her wrist, and pulled her into the stairwell.
“What are you doing?” Hathaway struggled, her wrist turning red from his grip.
“What am I doing?” Lucas’s brows furrowed as he let go of her. “Didn’t you say you were over Jeremiah? So why are you

“He loves Jessica, you get that, right? Even if you stripped naked and begged in front of Jeremiah, he wouldn’t sleep with you. Believe it or not.”
Hathaway stared at Lucas, his face dark and twisted with anger. “Why should I care who he loves? Why are you acting so hysterically? Could it be that…”
“Like hell,” Lucas snarled, suddenly clamping his hand around her throat.
Hathaway froze, nearly choking. For a moment, her mind flashed back to some very dark memories. In her previous life, Lucas had done things more unhinged than this.
Fortunately, after a couple of seconds, Lucas seemed to realize what he was doing and quickly let her go.
“Jeremiah isn’t interested in you at all.” Lucas suddenly gave a mocking laugh. “You’re still too young to understand. For a man, it’s all about being able to get hard.”
As he said this, he leaned in close to Hathaway.
Something clicked in Hathaway’s mind, her face instantly paling. She took
Step back, her hand flying up.
Lucas didn’t see it coming. A slap landed hard across his face, leaving a red mark on his cheek.
Everything froze for a second.
Lucas stared at her in disbelief, holding his cheek, his face growing colder and colder.
Before Lucas could say anything, Jeremiah and Jessica came in after hearing the commotion.
The tension in the air was obvious, and when he saw how Lucas and Hathaway were standing way too close, Jeremiah’s brows furrowed automatically.
Lucas lowered his hand from his face, and Jessica gasped, “Lucas, what happened to your face?”
They’d heard the commotion from outside, but didn’t think it was really a slap/ Lucas got slapped.
Jeremiah looked at Hathaway, expressionless. “Did you do this?”
Hathaway pressed her lips together, a flicker of humiliation crossing her face before she quickly pulled herself together.
Lucas stayed silent. He had his pride, so of course, he wasn’t about to admit Hathaway had slapped him. For the first time, Lucas didn’t respond to anything Jessica said.
Jessica frowned, her gaze shifting from Lucas to Hathaway.
‘Did she really slap him?’ Jessica wondered. ‘How did she dare?’
She’d always heard that Hathaway used to do everything she could to please Jeremiah, even going out of her way to please Calvin and Lucas to get on his good side.
Hathaway was back to her calm self and turned to leave.
As she passed by Jeremiah, Jeremiah said coolly, “You’ve got quite the slap. Have you been practicing before?”
Hathaway paused, something suddenly occurring to her. Goosebumps shot up all over her back.
She squared her shoulders and said arrogantly, “I smack the maids and servants at home all the time. If they piss me off. I throw things or hit them. So yeah, I’m pretty good at it.”

Jessica couldn’t quite figure out what was off. Hathaway used to bend over backwards to impress Jeremiah, but she suddenly made herself look bad on purpose.
It was like Hathaway stopped caring. She didn’t bother about how Jeremiah saw her anymore. Jessica felt all kinds of complicated.
She honestly had no clue what was up with Hathaway these days. She was turning into a total mystery.
Jeremiah had been treating her so well lately. He spoiled her and protected her. Jessica always thought Hathaway would go crazy with jealousy.
But now, it seemed like Hathaway couldn’t care less about her boyfriend. That actually took away some of Jessica’s sense of triumph.
After Hathaway left, Jessica said, “Her parents spoiled her rotten since she was a kid. She never thought there was anything wrong with hitting the staff. She thinks her status gives her the right whatever she wants.”

Lucas frowned.
He couldn’t stand Hathaway’s rudeness, but deep down, he doubted Hathaway really
true, half for show. Still, with Jessica saying it like that, it almost made Hathaway see eant what she said. It sounded half
exactly like that kind of person.
But Lucas didn’t argue. He rubbed his cheek and said, “She’s the kind of person who’s bound to get what she deserves sooner or later.”
Night fell, dark as pitch.
