On the third day, after Jeremiah got back from his business trip, Jessica didn’t mention the meal Calvin had with Hathaway. She brought up that Hathaway still hadn’t cleared things up with Edmund.
After hearing that, Jeremiah told his assistant Victor to place a big order from the Whitmore Group under the Blackwood family’s name.
The Whitmore Group suddenly received a big order from the Blackwood family.
Hathaway found out immediately.
Half an hour later, Avery and Hathaway met Jeremiah at their company. He had come to negotiate business.
It was obvious he had an agenda this time.
Hathaway paused, then greeted Jeremiah like nothing had happened, acting perfectly normal.
Avery let out a sigh of relief. He’d thought that after the last time they called off the deal, his sister would want nothing to do with the Blackwood Group and would give Jeremiah the
Cold shoulder.
But seeing this, he realized she still knew how to put the bigger picture first.
Feeling more at ease, after the meeting, the siblings and a few of the Whitmore Group’s vice presidents walked Jeremiah out.
“Mr. Blackwood, how are you getting back?” one of the vice presidents asked, noticing Jeremiah hadn’t driven himself. “Should I give you a lift?”
“My ride’s here,” Jeremiah replied.
As he finished speaking, a Bugatti pulled up in front of them.
To everyone’s surprise, it was Jessica who had come to pick him up.
Jessica didn’t get out of the car. She rolled down the window and greeted Avery, completely ignoring Hathaway, not glancing her way.
Jeremiah shook Avery’s hand politely, then got into the passenger seat next to Jessica.
From outside the car, one could easily see the sharp lines of Jeremiah’s profile.
Jeremiah turned his head a bit, speaking through the half-lowered window. “Ms. Whitmore, since we’ve been working together so smoothly, could you help me out and have a word with my grandfather?”
Hathaway thought, a sarcastic little snort in her mind, ‘Of course, it’s all about Jessica again.
“I’m free tomorrow. Well, since you asked, I’ll go see your grandfather then,” Hathaway replied with a faint smile.
“Great, I’ll come pick you up tomorrow,” Jeremiah said.
“No…” Hathaway was about to refuse, but didn’t get the chance.
Jessica, like she was worried Hathaway might back out, floored it, and the Bugatti sped off.
Once the car was out of sight, Avery turned around. The vice presidents said their goodbyes and headed back to work, leaving Avery alone with his sister.
Avery let out a sigh. “So, what’s going on with you and Lorenzo?”

Hathaway replied, “What do you mean?”
Avery pressed, “Aren’t you two dating? Or is this some kid’s game, nothing serious?”
Honestly, Avery never thought Lorenzo was right for his sister.
Even if Lorenzo became a doctor after college, with his salary, bonuses, and overtime pay, he still couldn’t give Hathaway the kind of life she deserved. Plus, Lorenzo was only the Blackwood family’s adopted son.
If his sister ended up marrying an adopted son, it would feel like she was settling for less.
He wanted his sister to find someone truly worthy of her.
Hathaway said. “I’m still young. Can you drop it?”
“What do you think of Calvin?” Avery asked.
Hathaway almost choked on her own spit. “Absolutely not!”
If it had been before, maybe she would’ve had some feelings for Calvin, but after yesterday, now she didn’t care about him at all.
She couldn’t figure out why Calvin suddenly got so curious about Killian and Ian.
The Harper Group might not be as powerful or deep-rooted as the Blackwood family, but it was still a big name in the business world, definitely a force to be reckoned with. She knew she had to keep her guard up around him.

The next day, Jeremiah showed up to pick up Hathaway in person, probably worried she’d bail again.
The Whitmore family never expected they’d have to put in a good word for Jessica, but Jeremiah made it public, so now everyone knew.
Conrad, worried his daughter might be treated unfairly, said, “Hathaway, if you don’t want to go, you don’t have to. There’s no reason for you to feel like you owe them anything.”
“Forget it. He made us 15 million dollars. No point turning down that kind of money,” Hathaway said. “This is the last time, though.”
When she stepped outside, Jeremiah personally opened the back door for her, his tone calm and unhurried. “Get in.”
She didn’t say a word, bent down, and slid into the back seat.
That was when Hathaway noticed Jessica sitting in the passenger seat.
The car pulled away smoothly. Jeremiah kept his eyes on the road, never once glancing back. Jessica didn’t look back either, completely ignoring Hathaway, chatting with Jeremiah as if Hathaway didn’t exist.
They chatted up front, casual and comfortable, and every so often Jessica’s laughter rang out, bright and clear like silver bells.
Hathaway stayed silent the whole ride, head down, scrolling through her phone. She was so quiet that everyone almost forgot she was there.
Finally, they arrived at the Blackwood Villa.
Hathaway pushed open the car door and was the first to step out.

The servants were already waiting at the entrance.
Hathaway walked quickly inside.

She had to swallow her disgust and put in a good word for Jessica to Edmund, holding onto his arm and telling him Jessica was her friend and had no clue about her past engagement with Jeremiah.
Edmund stared at her for a moment, then waved her away, dismissing her.
When Hathaway came out, Jessica was sitting on the sofa. The butler brought her a cup of tea, and when he saw Hathaway, he quickly offered, “Ms. Whitmore, let me bring you some coffee.”
“No, thanks,” Hathaway said, already heading for the door.
Just then, Mia came running in. “Hey!”
Jessica beamed and replied, “Hi.”
“Hathaway!” Mia called, grabbing onto Hathaway’s arm.
Hathaway tried to pull away, but Mia had a death grip and wouldn’t let go.
All she could do was give a cold, indifferent nod.
Jessica froze for a second; she totally didn’t expect Mia to call Hathaway instead of her.
Jessica shot a look at Hathaway, thinking, ‘Seriously, when did Mia get so close with her? Weren’t they always on bad terms before?’
“You silly girl,” Vivian said, coming in and frowning at the scene. “It’s been so long since you saw your cousin Jessica. She’s going to be Jeremiah’s future wife.”
Jessica smiled.
Compared to a kid acting out, Vivian’s words definitely carried a lot more weight.
Mia gave Jessica a quick greeting, “Oh, hi, Jessica.”
Jessica smiled softly.
After the greetings, Mia pulled Hathaway down to sit with her, plopping herself right next to her, practically glued to her side.
Vivian could only stare in silence.
Jeremiah had been outside taking a call, so he missed Mia calling out to Hathaway. When he walked in and saw Mia practically glued to Hathaway, he couldn’t hide his surprise.
Vivian turned to make small talk with Jeremiah, but with Hathaway, clearly an outsider, hanging around, it was obvious she couldn’t bring up what she really wanted to discuss.
Hathaway picked up the cup of coffee the butler brought over and took a sip.
She looked up, catching Vivian shooting daggers at her. Before Vivian could say anything, Hathaway stood up. “I’ve had my coffee and finished what I came for. I’m heading out.”
The butler immediately said, “Ms. Whitmore, I’ll drive you home.”
She’d come here in Jeremiah’s car.
