Chapter 525: Leaving At Dawn

Scarlet paced back and forth inside Allen’s office. Her nose flared, her chest rose and fell heavily, and her eyes sharpened by the second. The veins in her forehead protruded angrily as she tried to suppress the building tension within her.

The moment the door opened, she marched toward it. In a blink, she had Allen by the collar and pinned him against the door.

"What in the world are you doing?" she growled through gritted teeth. "Allen King, have you truly lost your mind?!"

Allen mentally winced as he turned his head away from the furious Scarlet. He had already anticipated this exact reaction when Atlas told him the day before that he would personally join the mission. Although Allen pleaded, begged, and even wept to induce sympathy not just from Atlas but also from Lola, his pleas fell on deaf ears.

In the end, he could only swallow every concern he had and sign Atlas’ name on the papers.

"Tell me." Scarlet slammed him back against the door to force his attention. "What are you thinking?"

A deep exhale escaped him as he turned his head to face her. "It’s an order—"

"Screw that!" Her grip on his collar tightened. "Allen, the only person here who can challenge his orders is you. Don’t mess with me. I don’t care if he kills me, but I’ll kill you right here and now if you don’t stop messing with me."

"Scarlet—"

"It’s protocol," she snapped, cutting him off. "He can send his little wife on the mission for all I care. She can die, and I wouldn’t even bat an eye. But both of them? If something goes terribly wrong—and you and I both know it could—the Order will be left alone."

Even if every individual here could fend for themselves, being without a leader was akin to a headless chicken.

It was the Order’s protocol that family members must not go on a mission together. Unless the family was large enough to lose one or two without crumbling. Atlas’ children were still children. Even if they were smart and special, this was a matter entirely different.

No one cared if Lola joined and died during the mission, but Atlas?

Allen clenched his teeth and wrapped his fingers around her wrist to peel her hands away slightly. He held her gaze.

"It’s his order," he repeated under his breath. "I did my best to stop him, Scar. I’m authorized to challenge his orders, but I don’t have the full power to stop him entirely. That’s why I’m not the head of the Order."

Because at the end of the day, Atlas had the final say. His words, his orders, his decisions—those were the ones that truly mattered, not just in the Order, but throughout the secret society.

"This is not a decision you or I can interfere with," Allen added sincerely. "If you’re that worried about his well-being, then be there. You will be there. Don’t screw up."

Their sharp gazes held, neither backing down. Her grip tightened one last time, but Allen didn’t flinch.

"Let go," he ordered, lifting a brow. "I’m still your commander, Scarlet."

"..." Bitterness flickered in her eyes, her jaw clenched tight. With a heavy heart, she released him and stepped back.

As soon as Allen was freed, he tugged his suit into place and straightened his posture. "Scarlet, I know you follow the protocol—"

"Shut up," she cut coldly, shoving him aside as she reached for the door. Before leaving, she shot him a venomous glare. "Allen... if anything happens in that base camp—while I’m in the heart of Ravah—listen carefully. Even if I have to crawl my way out of that wretched territory, I will... just to kill you."

Her voice dipped into a chilling whisper. "Remember my words. Even an amputation won’t stop me from taking your head."
