White noise whizzed in her ears as Lucy forgot to breathe.
The phone she was holding in her hand slowly slipped down and fell on the carpeted floor underneath her feet, but she made no effort to bend down and take it back.
"Are you there, Miss Grey?"
"Miss Grey?"
The nurse who delivered the news kept trying to talk to her. Yet Lucy couldn’t bear to listen to any more of her words.
She’s pregnant. Lucy didn’t know how to take in this news.
If she was two months pregnant, there could only be an answer to how it happened. It was on the night when Landon came home drunk. He had been drinking since he heard that Yvonne planned to return for the past few days. And they accidentally slept together.
But Lucy had made sure to drink an after-morning pill the next day. So, how...
Her mind suddenly screeched to a stop.
On that same day, she felt extremely sick for some reason and threw up. It was possible that she also vomited the medicine before it could take any effect!

Lying next to the toilet, Lucy started to shake all over. Her face and entire body were soaked with sweat and tears as she hugged her knees tightly.
"Idiot...idiot!" Lucy started to slap herself. "This is your fault, Lucy. You could’ve refused him and pushed him away that night. But you got greedy. Now... now, how are you going to fix this?"
"How?!"
More tears dribbled down her face.
Lucy had long faced the fact she was dying. And even though she promised Vanessa she’d get treated for her cancer; Lucy had already given up.
And her moving to another country was an opportunity for her to silently disappear forever.
But she had not expected this to happen.
Bam!
Lucy was startled by the sudden knocking on the door in front of her, followed by the sound of the flight attendant asking if she was alright. After telling the flight attendant everything was okay, Lucy finally got up and wiped the stains on her face.
Looking at herself in the mirror—haggard and hollowed—Lucy wondered what kind of bad luck ended up getting stuck on her that she had to experience these things at this age and all alone.
After fixing her appearance, Lucy stepped out of the cubicle and came face to face with an impatient-looking passenger, who must have been waiting for her to finish.
When she returned to her seat, Lucy sat motionless, her gaze vacant and lifeless.
It wasn’t until the plane finally landed that she finally moved, almost mechanically.
