The Billionaire's Ex-Wife Returns (Lucy and Landon) novel Chapter 11

Chapter 11: Two Months Pregnant

"Sir, did you hear me?" Alaric walked closer, thinking Landon didn’t hear him the first time. He repeated his words. "Miss Leblanc suddenly collapsed, and your mother asked you to go to the hospital."

"Alaric, am I doctor?"

Alaric was dumbfounded. "No, sir."

"Then why are they urging me to go to the hospital?"

"But your mother and Miss Leblanc..."

"Enough, Alaric!" Landon raised his voice, shooting him a glance that had his secretary shutting his mouth. "The one who’s paying you is me, not my mother. And as for Yvonne, the doctors at the hospital didn’t become doctors, so they have to call me to come over."

"Understood, sir."

Alaric chanced a look at his boss and sighed in relief when his boss didn’t glare at him anymore. He almost lost his job just now. If he had said one more word, the word ’you’re fired’ would come out of Landon’s lips.

Thankfully, he knew how to shut up. And next time, he wouldn’t dare mention a word of Miss Leblanc in front of him.

Landon reluctantly backed away from the door before he started to walk away from it. He wanted to stay and wait for Lucy to come out. But he had already told Vanessa to pass his word to her.

He just needed to meet her under the same oak tree where they first met and speak to her.

Truthfully, he didn’t understand why he was even doing this.

Accepting the divorce should’ve been an easy thing. After all, it is what he wanted.

He could finally marry the woman who was his first love. He should be happy about it and celebrate.

But he just couldn’t.

At the mention of Yvonne’s collapse, Landon’s instinct that should’ve made him hurry to her side didn’t appear.

Instead, all he could think about was Lucy. Even his body refused to go elsewhere.

And he couldn’t comprehend why that was.

Maybe when he saw Lucy again, he would then figure out what was happening to him.

"Just what did you do to me, Lucy?" asked Landon, his voice barely a whisper as he entered the car.

...

"He’s gone, Lucy." Vanessa rapped her knuckles on the cabinet.

Lucy took a few seconds to respond, still reeling at the sight of Landon. Only a few meters were separating them, but her heart chilled when she realized how he had changed so much.

Pushing open the cabinet, Lucy looked at Vanessa guiltily. "I’m really sorry, Vanessa. I shouldn’t have come here."

If she hadn’t come to her best friend’s place, Vanessa wouldn’t have been involved in this mess.

Vanessa smiled. "Silly, that was nothing. I should’ve at least punched that bastard so he’d have a taste of your pain. Not that I’m saying it’ll be enough."

Lucy didn’t remark as she pulled herself out of the closet, leaving a messy trail of clothes on the ground. Landon really deserved a punch to the face. She loved him, but what he did was not just horrible.

The two found themselves sitting on the bed.

Silence fell over them until Vanessa asked, "What are your plans now?"

"I want to get out here," Lucy said hoarsely, but firmly.

"OK! I’ll help you!" Vanessa suddenly stood up and dragged Lucy to the kitchen. "But for now, I need you to fill your stomach with food first."

When food was mentioned, Lucy suddenly remembered that she hadn’t eaten anything all day.

The kitchen was soon filled with the delicious aroma of food, and after fifteen minutes, Vanessa placed a plate of food in front of her.

"Bon appetite!"
