The Billionaire’s Fight For Redemption (Noah and Sierra) novel Chapter 121

Chapter 121

Nothing,I say finally. I’ve been shopping there for years and nothing stood out.

The two officers exchange another glance.

What’s that look for?Noah asks, his tone edged with suspicion.

Mark turns his gaze to me. You said you’ve been going there for years, right?

Yes.

Then it’s highly likely whoever’s behind this has been studying you,he says grimly. They knew your habits. Your routines. That’s probably how they managed to tamper with the equipment at your workplace, knowing you arrive earlier than your team. And the carit fits the same pattern.

Calton adds, It also means this person was and has been following you. That would explain how they knew you were at the grocery store, and it would also explain why you spotted that man outside the bar. Could be the same person or someone working for them.

My stomach twists violently, and panic floods my chest.

Fuck. Fuck. Why is this happening?

I should be focused on my baby, on healing, on getting better. Not worrying about someone trying to kill me. None of this makes any fucking sense. Why would anyone come after me?

Do you have any enemies, Miss Meyers?Officer Mark asks, after a while.

The question hits me like a slap. I blink, unsure how to even respond. Enemies?

Before I can answer, Noah cuts in, his tone sharp and commanding. She doesn’t. And if someone did this intentionally, you’ll find out who.1

The authority in his voice sends a shiver down my spine. The officers share another look before Calton nods, jotting something in his notebook.

We’ll keep you updated,Mark says. Get some rest. We may need another statement once you’ve fully recovered.

I nod numbly, barely hearing their footsteps as they leave. 1

The moment the door clicks shut, silence settles heavy between us. Noah’s still staring at the floor, his jaw tight, his fingers flexing at his sides.

Do you have enemies?

The question echoes in my head. Noah cut me off before I could answer, but even if he hadn’tI probably would’ve said no without hesitation. But Can I really claim I don’t have people who despise me to the core?

Why did you cut me off?I ask quietly.

His eyes flick to mine, stormy and unreadable. Because I know for a fact you don’t have enemies.

Is that really the case?

As I ask it, a memory surfaces. One I’d almost forgotten. It seemed insignificant at the time but now? Now I’m not sure it was a coincidence at all.

Yes,he growls the word out like he’s daring me to challenge it.

A bitter laugh slips past my lips. Funnybecause right before I left that day, I ran into Brook in the parking lot.His head jerks up. He tries to mask the flicker of surprise in his eyes, but I see it. I always see it.

Brook?he repeats, as if he’s not sure he heard right.

I was just as shocked as you,I say, tightening the blanket around me. I even asked her what she was doing there. And let’s be honest, Noah, Brook isn’t exactly the grocerystore type. So, what was she doing there?

His eyes flash, but he looks away, jaw working.

Don’t you think it’s strange?I press, my voice low. Brook just happens to show up at the parking lot and then less than thirty minutes later, I end up in an accident?

He shakes his head hard. No. It can’t be her.

And why not?I shoot back. She definitely has motive. The officers asked if I had any enemies and I think it’s safe to say that Brook fits the description, don’t you?

What would her motive even be?His voice rises, frustration bleeding through. Sure, she doesn’t like you but wanting to kill you? Come on, Sierra

I shake my head slowly. Noah doesn’t know what I know. He doesn’t know that Brook is in love with him. Her motive? It’s simple. Eliminate me and the baby. In her twisted little world, she probably sees us as a threat. And what better way to get rid of a threat than to erase it completely?
