Chapter 183
“No,” I cut in with a smile. “Please don’t wait.
He frowns like I’ve personally offended him. “It’s my job to drive you around and make sure you’re safe.”
“I get that and I appreciate that, but you can’t just wait until I’m done. It might take hours.”
“It’s okay… That’s what I was hired to do.”
I sigh, starting to get frustrated. I didn’t want Adrian getting the wrong impression. “I’ll call you when I’m almost done.”
He frowns like I’ve personally offended him. “It is not safe for you to—”
“I’ll be fine. I promise.”
It takes another minute of convincing, but he finally sighs in defeat and drives away.
I inhale deeply, adjust my bag on my shoulder, and walk toward the small café tucked between two boutiques. Warm lights glow through the windows, spilling golden onto the pavement. The place smells like roasted coffee beans and cinnamon.
I admit that I was nervous the whole way here, and honestly, I’d thought of turning back a couple of times. I know it would have been chicken of me, but I was so nervous I was afraid I’d make a bad impression.
The moment I step inside I’m hit place with the smell roasted coffee beans and cinnamon. I scan the place and it doesn’t take too long before my eyes find him.
Adrian sits near the window, one hand around a mug, the other tapping absently on the table. He must sense me because he looks up and smiles and immediately he does so, all the tension leaves my body. It feels like a weight has finally been lifted from my shoulders.
I walk over, and he stands to greet me.
“Hi Sierra,” he says, his voice deep, but the way he delivers the two words is so cute.
I can’t help smiling, cause damn, I feel those tiny little butterflies I haven’t felt in a very long fucking time.
“Hi Adrian,” I say, watching as he pulls the chair out for me.
He waits until I’m seated before sitting back down. The gesture is small, but with modern dating, it’s not everyday you find a guy that treats you like a lady.
A waitress comes over, and I order a vanilla latte. He orders another of whatever he’s drinking. When she leaves, an easy silence settles between us.
“Can I be honest?” he asks, his eyes on me.
A nervous laugh slips past my lips. “Go ahead.”
“I was worried you would cancel… this whole time I was here, I was afraid you’d change your mind.”
“Why?”
“Because most would call this unprofessional… I’m your OB/GYN after all.”
I laugh, before I can stop it. “You just had to mention that part…”

“Of course,” he answers grinning, and fuck my stomach turns into a whole damn zoo.
“Can I be honest too?” I ask and he nods.
“I almost changed my mind on my way here” I laugh nervously, “But only because I was so nervous.”
“Well I’m fucking glad you didn’t, because that would have broken my heart… And then I’d have to hide myself away in castle because I can’t bear the thought of asking any woman out again”
I can’t help it, my laugh burst forth before and with it, the last remaining tension in my bones.
Then he leans forward, forearms on the table. “So… tell me something about you that isn’t stressful or sad.”
I laugh. “That eliminates most things.”
“Try,” he says, smiling.
