Chapter 184
“What about me?”
“Tell me something not stressful or sad.”
He laughs, running a hand through his hair. “Well… I like cooking. And I’m terrible at following recipes, so everything either turns out amazing or inedible.”
I grin. “That’s adorable.”
“I’ll let you try the edible ones someday.”
Heat blooms in my cheeks before I can control it, and for a second, I can barely look him in the eye. I feel like
teenager.
The conversation flows, effortlessly. We talk about music, embarrassing childhood stories, bad fashion choices, and favorite late–night snacks. He’s easy to be around.
I remember when I we first met at the clinic. Yes, he drew my attention but he gave off the broody kind of vibes. I never imagine there was this other side of him.
When the drinks arrive, he waits for me to take the first sip before he touches his.
We end up sharing a slice of chocolate cake, forks scraping at the plate as we laugh over some story about his younger brother stealing his shoes in high school.
At one point, I lean my elbow on the table, half turned toward him, and I realize something unexpected, I haven’t this comfortable, around a man in a long time.
I don’t date, but when I do find myself on a blind date, Lilly organized, the man has never been able to catch my attention and keep it. Most of the time, my mind was always on how quick I can leave.
The sunlight shifts outside as evening approaches, and the glow around him softens. His gaze drifts to my face sometimes, lingering but not in a way that makes me uncomfortable. In a way that feels like appreciation. Like awe. Like he can’t believe I exist.
Time slips by until I finally glance at my phone.
6:02 p.m.
“Oh,” I breathe. “I didn’t realize…”
“Neither did I.” He sounds almost disappointed.
I stand, smoothing my dress. He stands too.
“It was really nice having your company, Sierra,” he says, smiling with his eyes.
“Yeah,” I whisper, smiling. “It really was. I’m so glad I agreed to this.”
His smile broadens, and I can’t help being drowned in those hazel brown orbs.
“I don’t think I’ve enjoyed someone’s company, this much, in a long time.”
I wink, warmth feeling my chest. “Right back at you, Adrian”
He walks with me to the door, but before he can walk me out, I stop him.

“You don’t have to walk me out. I’m good.”
I didn’t want him to see the driver. I had yet to tell the driver to pick me, up, but still. Just in case he was around.
“Are you sure?”
I nod. “Thank you, though.”
He hesitates like he wants to argue but eventually he lets me go.
“Okay then, have a lovely evening Sierra. I hope to see you soon”
“You too, Adrian.” I tell him, and for a moment I debate whether I should hug him, but then I think against it and leave after giving him one last stare.
When I get outside and don’t spot the driver anywhere, so I pull out my phone to order an Uber. Once it’s been confirmed, I begin walking toward the parking lot across the road. 3
