The Billionaire’s Fight For Redemption (Noah and Sierra) novel Chapter 227

Noah stands beside Lilly in a fitted black V-neck that shows off his biceps, paired with black jeans and black boots. If I still liked him, I’d admit he looks good... But I don’t like him anymore, so it doesn’t matter.

Lilly, on the other hand, is dressed in cotton shorts, looking relaxed and effortlessly herself.

When our eyes lock with those of Noah, the world tilts. For a moment, everything spins, and I have to close my eyes just to regain my balance.

I take a deep breath, forcing myself to calm down even though my heart is pounding so loudly I’m sure half the damn state can hear it. When I open my eyes, I see Lilly beckoning me over, and I force myself to move. One step at a time.

I walk toward the jet, my shoes thumping softly against the pavement, dread wrapping tight around my heart.

Maybe he’s here to see Lilly off. Maybe he’s here to go over the contract one last time. Lilly did say they’re about to sign with a Paris-based company, and it’s a huge deal. It would make sense for Noah to want to review everything again.

Maybe. Maybe. Maybe. I cling to every possible explanation, because they’re all possibilities, right?

I stop when I reach them, and Lilly immediately pulls me into a hug.

“Ouch,” she whimpers when I pinch her waist.

We pull apart, and I shoot Lilly a look but she ignores it completely, only raising her eyebrows before tightening her grip on my hand.

“Now that everyone is here,” she says casually, her gaze flicking from Noah to me, “we can leave.”

Fuck. This is exactly what I didn’t want to consider when I was busy coming up with my list of maybes. I didn’t want to imagine that him coming with us was even a possibility, because I can't imagine being around him any more than I already have.

Is it too late to turn around and leave? I mean, it can’t be that hard, right? All I have to do is turn back and walk away.

As if sensing my intent, my best friend tightens her hold on me and yanks me forward, making me stumble.

“Hey,” I grumble. “Pregnant lady here. Be careful.”

She narrows her eyes at me. “Don’t even think about it, Si. You promised you’d come with me on this trip and you damn well will.”

“That was before I found out he was coming too,” I whisper-yell. “You conveniently forgot to mention that little detail.”

“Because I knew you wouldn’t have agreed if I did.”

“You knew,” I snap, glaring at her. “So you lied to me.”

“I didn’t lie,” she says. “I just failed to tell you everything.”

“Which is the same thing,” I shoot back.

She sighs. “Come on. It’ll be fun. What do you really have to lose?”

My eyes narrow, my lips curling. “I don’t know, my dignity? Or better yet, my life? The guy looks like he wants to crush my head and snap your neck while he’s at it.”

“You’re exaggerating.”

“I’m not. Look at him.” I point with my casted hand, though I very deliberately don’t look. “His teeth are grinding so hard you’d think he’s crushing stones.”

“You do realize,” a deep, silky voice cuts in, “that I’m standing right here?”

We turn to Noah.

“Yeah, we know that,” Lilly fires back without missing a beat. “Now can you please shut up while I try to convince my best friend to come on this mini-vacation with me? She's scared of you, can't you see?”

“I’m not scared,” I blurt out, way too fast, then snort. “Who would be scared of him?”

“Then come with me,” Lilly says sweetly. “If you don’t, you’ll just prove you’re a chicken.”

I bite my lip so hard I’m pretty sure it’s about to bleed. It’s either that or smack her.
