It’s been about two hours, and already I want to jump out of this damn jet. The tension in here is so thick I could cut it with a knife.
What the hell was Lilly thinking?
Sure, staying in the same house with Noah was manageable but only because his place is massive and we can avoid each other. Here? Right now? It’s different. There’s nowhere to hide.
Lilly and Noah have been discussing the contract for hours. As much as I hate the tension between us, the boredom is starting to kill me too.
“Some champagne, miss?” the hostess asks.
“No, thanks,” I reply, looking up at her. “Just some juice, please.”
“I’ll get that for you in a moment.”
I nod, watching as she pours champagne for Lilly and Noah before disappearing to fetch my drink.
“Can we take a break?” Lilly finally asks. “I feel like my head is about to explode.”
Noah glances at her briefly before his attention shifts back to the papers. “We need to get this contract right. We can’t afford mistakes.”
“I know,” Lilly says, sagging back in her seat. “And we’ve gone over it a billion times. There is no loophole.”
Noah studies her for a moment before relenting. “Fine.”
Lilly exhales in relief. Noah, however, doesn’t put the contract down. He just keeps flipping through the pages.
“You good?” Lilly asks, moving into the seat beside me.
“Yeah,” I yawn. “Just a little tired.”
Some of it is the pregnancy. The rest is because I barely slept last night.
“Same,” she says, yawning too. “I’ve been stressing over this deal, and I haven’t gotten much sleep. I think it’s finally catching up with me.”
“We still have a few hours left,” I suggest. “Maybe you can get some rest.”
