For a moment I’m stunned not expecting him to ask that.
“I heard Grandpa and Grandma talking. They said that Aunt Brook pushed Aunt Sierra down the stairs because she didn’t want her to have your baby” he answers my silent question.
When I don’t say anything, he continues, “Besides, when both Aunt Brook and Aunt Sierra were staying here, I used to hear in her room saying that she’ll never let the baby and Aunt Sierra have you.”
“Yeah, I heard her tell her friend by the pool that she was going to deal with the baby,” Nova adds.
“When was this?” I ask. I should be stunned but honestly, I am not.
“Before you told her to leave” Nova answers, “Aunt Brook wasn’t a nice person.”
“Maybe we should stop calling her aunt,” Nolan says, “She doesn’t even deserve it.”
Before I can answer, my phone rings. I check the name, and it’s Adrian.
For a second, I consider declining it, but then I answer.
“What?” I say.
“The bar, in thirty minutes.” he replies, no greeting or pretense.
“Why?” I ask.
“Because we need to talk.”
I almost scoff.
“We have nothing to talk about.”
“This isn’t about you,” he says, his tone even.
That makes me pause.
“Fine” I grumble before ending the call.
I turn to the twins, “I need to go, but we’ll continue this conversation when I get back.”
Something tells me there is more. That they know more than anyone gives them credit for.
“Okay Daddy,” Nova replies and Nolan nods.
