Soft light spread across the room.

Daniel picked up his phone. He typed a message to Mr. Harris.

“Starting tomorrow morning, Mrs. Helen will have full charge of Alina. Bringing meals three times a day. Making sure she eats. Staying with her if needed. No one is to enter except Mrs. Helen and myself.”

The reply came quickly.

“Understood, Sir.”

Daniel looked at Alina again. Still curled in the corner in the same position.

“Mrs. Helen will come to take care of you tomorrow,” said Daniel, even though he was not sure Alina was listening. “You like Mrs. Helen, don’t you? She’ll be there to keep you company.”

No response.

Daniel drew a long breath.

Then he left the room. Locking the door from outside.

Leaving Alina alone in the deepening darkness.

Below, Clarissa still stood in the same spot.

The tears had dried on her cheeks. Replaced by a cold, hatred-filled stare.

Her mind worked rapidly. Planning. Strategizing.

Alina was pregnant.

Daniel had confirmed it directly. He had defended her fiercely. Had nearly struck Clarissa for speaking ill of the

woman.

This could not be allowed to continue.

Clarissa had to act quickly before the pregnancy became more real. Before the baby was born and threatened Junior’s position as sole heir.

But how?

She could not get close to Alina. Mr. Harris and the security guards were always on watch. Daniel had forbidden anyone from entering without his permission.

Even Margaret, who once had full authority over this household, had been exiled to the penthouse.

Clarissa had no access. No direct means of harming Alina or the child she carried.

But she had something else.

Something far more powerful than physical access.

Junior.

Clarissa smiled thinly. Coldly.

Junior was the most powerful weapon she possessed.

A five-year-old boy who was innocent. Who believed everything his mother told him. Who had already begun to fear Alina thanks to Clarissa’s manipulation.

Junior could be used.

Not to harm Alina physically. A child that small was incapable of that. But to harm Alina psychologically.

To make the woman more broken. More desperate.

Clarissa would make Alina feel the same pain she herself was feeling now.

And more than that.

Clarissa could plant seeds of hatred in Junior.

Seeds that would grow with time.

Making Junior despise the unborn sibling. Making him despise Alina even more deeply.

So that even if the baby were born, Junior would never accept it.

Would always see it as an enemy. A threat. A rival.

And a sibling’s hatred toward another could last a lifetime.

Clarissa turned. She walked toward the art room in the west wing.

Where Junior was finishing his school assignment.

Junior sat on the floor with a large sheet of paper spread out before him.

Watercolors in various shades were scattered around him. A small brush in his hand.

He was painting a garden scene. A school assignment due tomorrow.

The babysitter sat in the corner reading a magazine. Watching from a distance.

Clarissa entered with a gentle smile. She had already rearranged her expression back into that of a warm and loving mother.

“Junior sweetheart, how’s your painting coming along? Is it almost done?”

Junior looked up. He smiled widely at the sight of his mother.

“Mama! Look, I’m almost finished. This is a tree. This is flowers. And this is grass.

Clarissa crouched beside Junior. She studied the painting with a proud expression.

“Oh, it’s beautiful sweetheart. The colors are so bright. You’ll definitely get a good grade.”

Junior’s smile widened. “Thanks, Mama.”

Clarissa stroked Junior’s head gently. “May Mama sit here and keep you company?”

“Of course!”

Clarissa sat cross-legged beside Junior. She watched the child continue painting.

She let a few minutes pass in comfortable silence.

Then in a casual tone, she asked.

“Junior, do you know why Papa came home early today?”

Junior shook his head. Still focused on his painting.

“Something happened in this house. Something important. Mama thinks Junior should know.”

Junior stopped painting. He looked at Clarissa with curious eyes.

“What is it, Mama?”

Clarissa drew a deep breath. As though this were a difficult conversation for her.

“Alina. Something has happened with her.”

Junior’s face changed. His smile faded.

“That sick woman? Is she getting worse?”

“Yes, sweetheart. That sick woman.” Clarissa spoke in a gentle but meaningful tone. “Mama just found out something about her today. Something… important for Junior.”

Junior set down his brush. He turned to face Clarissa fully.

“What is it, Mama?”

“Alina is pregnant. She’s going to have a baby.”

Junior furrowed his brow. Not fully understanding.

“Pregnant? She’s going to have a baby?”

“Yes. There’s a tiny baby growing inside her. In a few months, the baby will be born and become part of this family.

Junior processed this information with a confused expression.

“A baby? Like the neighbor’s baby that was born yesterday?”

“Yes, sweetheart. Just like that.” Clarissa took Junior’s hand. “And that baby will be your little sibling.”

Junior was quiet for a moment. Then his face lit up.

“I’m going to have a little sibling?”

An innocent reaction. The enthusiasm of a small child who knew no better.

Clarissa suppressed the irritation rising inside her. She maintained her gentle smile.

“Yes, sweetheart. But Mama needs to tell you something very important about this. Something Junior needs to understand.”

She drew Junior closer. She looked into his eyes with a serious expression.

“Junior, do you remember Mama telling you that Alina is sick? Sick in her mind?”

Junior nodded. “Yes. Mama said she was sick so I shouldn’t go near her.”

“That’s right. Well, now this sick Alina is going to have a baby. And Mama is worried…” Clarissa paused for a moment. Letting the drama build. “Mama is worried the baby might be sick too, just like Alina.”

Junior looked at her with wide eyes. “The baby will be sick too?”

“Perhaps, sweetheart. Because when a mother is sick, sometimes her child can be affected too. That’s what the doctors say.”

A perfect lie. Delivered in a tone of genuine concern.

Junior looked confused and slightly frightened.

“Then what will happen, Mama?”

“Mama isn’t certain. But what Mama does know is that the baby will live in this house. In the same house as Junior. And if the baby is sick like Alina…” Clarissa let the sentence hang.

“What will happen?”

“Mama is afraid that when the baby grows up, it might become like Alina. Confused. Doing strange things. Maybe… putting the others in this house in danger. Including you.”

“Putting me in danger?” Junior swallowed.

“Mama isn’t sure, sweetheart. Mama hopes not. But Mama has to be honest with Junior. Mama is worried.”

Clarissa pulled Junior into a tight embrace.

“What’s certain is that Junior needs to be careful. Don’t get too close to that baby once it’s born. Keep your distance. Mama will always be there if anything happens.”

Junior nodded within Clarissa’s embrace. His body trembled slightly.

“I’m scared, Mama.”

“There’s no need to be scared, sweetheart. Mama will always protect Junior. Mama won’t let anyone hurt you. Not even that baby.”

Clarissa released the embrace. She wiped the tears that had begun to fall down Junior’s cheeks.

“Now forget about it for a moment. Let’s finish your painting. You have to hand it in tomorrow, don’t you?”

Junior nodded slowly. He picked up his brush again.

But his hands trembled slightly. The lines he painted were not as clean as before.

His mind was now filled with frightening images of a sick baby. A dangerous baby. One that would live in the same house as him.

Clarissa smiled thinly as she observed the change in Junior,

The first seed had been planted.

Now she only needed to water it with other pieces of information. Slowly. Consistently.

Until Junior truly despised the existence of the sibling not yet born.
