The Billionaire's Silent Wife (Ryan and Eve) novel Chapter 152

Chapter 152 Dinner With Teeth part 2

It wasn’t dramatic. Not at first. There was no music cue, no loud argument, no obvious shift.

It was subtle, like a pleasant room suddenly filled with smoke.

Eve saw Ryan’s posture stiffen before she even turned her head. His hand on her knee went still.

Tevin’s grin faltered.

Maxwell’s eyes lifted, sharp.

Eve turned slowly.

Bruno walked in.

And with him, Luan.

Kimberly was not there.

Luan looked polished, hair perfect, makeup flawless, dressed like she’d planned this entrance for hours. She moved with that kind of confidence people wore when they believed they belonged wherever they

wanted.

Bruno tried to act casual, but his shoulders were stiff, his jaw tight. He looked like a man walking into a scene he’d already lost control of.

Eve’s stomach tightened, not with fear, not exactly, but with that familiar irritation that came whenever Luan entered a room: the sense that peace was being violated on purpose.

Tevin let out a low laugh, but there was no friendliness in it.

“Well,” he said, voice light but edged, “look who decided to ruin dinner.”

Ryan didn’t speak.

He didn’t have to.

His silence was heavy.

Luan’s eyes found Ryan immediately, lingering, bright, hungry.

Then her gaze slid to Eve.

And she smiled.

Sweetly.

As if they were old friends.

As if she hadn’t screamed in butcher shops, threatened in public, clung to delusion like it was love.

Eve’s mouth tightened.

Bruno hesitated, then started toward their table, guiding Luan like he hoped manners could soften what reality couldn’t.

“Ryan,” Bruno said, forcing a smile. “Tevin. Maxwell.”

Maxwell didn’t smile back.

He looked at Bruno like he was tired.

“Took you long enough,” Maxwell said bluntly.

Bruno’s brows furrowed. “What?”

Maxwell didn’t bother easing into it. “You’re not helping your sister by enabling obsession.”

Luan’s smile stayed in place, but her eyes hardened slightly.

Bruno shifted uncomfortably. “Maxwell, it’s not like that.”

“It is exactly like that,” Maxwell replied, calm and cold. “You bring her into rooms where she doesn’t belong and call it support. You feed the delusion and then act surprised when she embarrasses herself.”

Tevin laughed again, still not friendly. “He’s right. And you know he’s right, which is why you look like you

swallowed a lemon.”

Bruno’s jaw tightened. “I’m not here to argue.”

Maxwell’s gaze stayed steady. “Then don’t bring arguments with you.”

Eve watched Ryan closely.

He didn’t move.

He didn’t rescue Bruno.

He didn’t soften.

He simply stayed beside Eve, present, silent, and that silence said more than any public statement could.

Bruno took a breath, forcing himself to look at Eve. “Eve.”

Eve didn’t smile. “Bruno.”

Luan stepped closer, still smiling.

“Eve,” she said brightly. “What a coincidence.”

Tevin’s voice was lazy. “Coincidence is not the word I’d use.”

Luan ignored him, eyes on Eve.

“You look… well,” Luan said, gaze flicking to Eve’s bump. “It suits you.”

Eve kept her face neutral. “Thank you.”

Luan’s smile sharpened. “I’m glad you’re enjoying your little moment.”

Eve blinked slowly. “My little moment?”

Clam

Luan leaned slightly toward the table, as if sharing something intimate. “You know,” she said softly, “this,

this lifestyle. This attention. It’s… a lot.”

Ryan’s eyes flicked to Luan then, brief, sharp.

Luan continued anyway, her sweetness becoming a weapon.

“Some women aren’t built for it,” she said, still smiling. “They get overwhelmed. They start clinging too

tightly. They start thinking pity is love.”

Eve’s pulse stayed steady, but her throat burned.

Tevin’s eyebrows rose. “Oh, she’s doing the thing.”

Maxwell’s tone was flat. “She’s doing the thing.”

Bruno looked like he wanted to disappear.

Eve met Luan’s gaze calmly. “Do you want something, Luan?”

Luan’s eyes widened with feigned innocence. “Can’t I just have dinner too?”

Tevin chuckled. “Sure. Anywhere else.”

Luan ignored him again and leaned closer, voice still sweet. “I’m just saying… people have seasons, Eve.”

Eve’s mouth curved into a small smile of her own, polite, controlled, elegant.

“Do they?” Eve asked.

Luan’s smile tightened. “Yes. Some people are… temporary.”

Eve’s smile didn’t fade. “And some people are delusional.”

Bruno’s eyes widened slightly.

Tevin’s lips parted in delighted shock. “Oh.”

Maxwell’s gaze sharpened with quiet satisfaction.

Luan’s eyes narrowed, but she kept the sweetness. “You’re spicy.”

Eve’s tone stayed calm, “No. I’m honest.”

Luan tilted her head. “You’re brave.”

Eve nodded once. “I’ve had practice.”

Luan’s smile stayed fixed, but it looked painful now, like it was being held up by force.

“You know,” Luan said, voice soft and poisonous, “Ryan used to like quiet women.”

Eve glanced at Ryan briefly, then back to Luan. “And now he likes me.”

Ryan didn’t speak.

He didn’t need to.

Claim

The fact that he didn’t intervene, didn’t rush to silence Eve, didn’t correct her, didn’t try to smooth things

over, was its own statement.

He was letting Eve handle it.

He was showing Luan that Eve was not fragile.

Not temporary.

Not disposable.

Luan’s smile flickered.

Tevin leaned back, openly enjoying himself. “This is better than dessert.”

Bruno hissed under his breath, “Tevin,”

Tevin looked at him with mock pity. “Bruno, you brought her here. You don’t get to complain now.”

Maxwell’s gaze stayed on Bruno. “Tell her to move on.”

Bruno’s face tightened. “It’s complicated.”

Maxwell’s voice was cold. “It’s not. You just don’t want to be the bad guy.”

Bruno swallowed. “She’s my sister.”

Maxwell didn’t blink. “Then be her brother. Not her accomplice.”

Luan’s eyes flashed at Maxwell. “Excuse me?”

Maxwell turned to her calmly. “You heard me.”

Luan’s smile returned, thin. “I didn’t come for a lecture.”

Maxwell’s tone didn’t change. “Then stop behaving like someone who needs one.”

Tevin laughed, but there was steel in it. “Honestly, Luan, if you put half this energy into finding someone who actually wants you, you’d be married by now.”

Bruno looked horrified. “Tevin,”

Eve spoke calmly, cutting through the noise. “Enough.”
