The Billionaire's Silent Wife (Ryan and Eve) novel Chapter 160

Chapter 160 A Father Who Won’t Be Laughed At 2

Steven wore a dark coat, perfectly fitted, his hair groomed, his face composed in the way men with pride

wore composure, like a shield, like a crown.

He stepped forward before anyone invited him.

Eve’s breath caught.

Steven’s eyes swept over the entryway, taking in the clean lines, the controlled wealth, the safety that had begun to settle into the walls.

Then his gaze landed on Eve.

And something shifted in his face, not softness.

Disbelief.

As if Eve’s peace was an insult.

“Well,” Steven said, voice smooth but sharp underneath. “There you are.”

Eve’s mouth went dry. “Father.”

Steven’s lips tightened at the word, like he liked hearing it even when it didn’t come with obedience.

Then his eyes moved.

And he saw Camila and Mitre.

The change in Steven’s expression was immediate.

His brows lifted.

His gaze sharpened.

His confidence didn’t vanish, but it twisted, like he had stepped into a room and found strangers sitting in

a chair he thought belonged to him.

“Who are they?” Steven asked, though his tone suggested he already knew the answer and didn’t like it.

Eve felt her body lock.

Camila stepped forward slightly, her posture graceful, her face calm. “Hello, Steven.”

Steven’s eyes narrowed. “Do I know you?”

Camila’s voice didn’t shake. “No. But you know of me.”

Mitre didn’t greet him. He simply stared, eyes hard and quiet.

Steven’s gaze flicked to Mitre, then back to Camila. “And you are…?”

Camila’s smile appeared, small, controlled, not warm. “Camila Roderigo.”

Eve felt the air in the hallway thicken.

Steven looked at Mitre next, jaw tightening. “And you?”

Mitre’s voice was calm, heavy. “Mitre.”

Steven’s eyes flashed. “So it’s true.”

Eve’s stomach dropped. “What’s true?”

Steven’s gaze snapped back to Eve. “They adopted you.”

The words hit Eve like a slap without a hand.

Not because it wasn’t true.

Because hearing it out loud made it real in a way her heart hadn’t fully dared to accept.

Camila didn’t flinch. “Yes.”

Steven’s lips pulled back slightly, not quite a smile. “You adopted my daughter.”

Camila’s chin lifted. “We claimed her when she had no one.”

Steven’s eyes sharpened. “She had me.”

Mitre’s voice cut through like a blunt blade. “Where were you when she was alone in Westwood?”

The question was spoken plainly.

No drama.

No shouting.

Just one sentence.

And it hit like a punch.

Steven went still.

For the first time since stepping into the doorway, his composure faltered, just a fraction. His eyes

flickered. His nostrils flared like he’d been struck in the chest.

Eve’s throat tightened.

Camila’s gaze didn’t soften. “Where were you,” she repeated quietly, “when she was alone?”

Steven’s jaw flexed. His voice rose slightly, edged. “Don’t question me.”

Mitre didn’t blink. “Answer.”

Steven’s eyes flashed with rage. “I don’t owe you anything.”

so fast Eve almost didn’t recognise it.

“You owe her,” Camila said, voice calm but unyielding. “You owe her an answer.”

Steven’s gaze snapped to Eve again, anger sharpening. “You brought them into this.”

Eve swallowed hard. “I didn’t bring anyone. They,”

“They stole you,” Steven cut in, his voice rising. “They took my daughter and dressed it up like charity.”

Camila’s eyes narrowed. “No one stole her. She walked away from you.”

Steven laughed once, harsh. “Walked away? You think she walked away? You think she had a choice?”

His gaze pinned Eve, burning. “Did you have a choice, Eve? Or did they poison you against me the way everyone always does?”

Eve felt her heart thud painfully.

Ryan spoke for the first time, voice cold and steady. “This is not your home. Watch your tone.”

Steven’s head turned toward Ryan like he had just noticed him properly.

Ch

And in Steven’s eyes, something ugly flickered, resentment, contempt, satisfaction, all tangled together.

“Ah,” Steven said slowly, as if savouring the moment. “Mr. Ashbrook.”

Ryan didn’t move. “Steven.”

Steven’s mouth curved faintly. “Still playing the saviour.”

Ryan’s jaw tightened. “Still playing the victim.”

Steven’s eyes flashed.

Then he stepped further inside without invitation, like the floor belonged to him.

Eve’s body tensed, but Ryan shifted with him, maintaining that quiet barrier between Steven and Eve

without making it theatrical.

Steven looked around again, voice dripping with derision. “So this is where my daughter is now.”

Camila’s voice stayed firm. “She’s not your property.”

Steven’s gaze snapped to her. “Don’t use words you don’t understand.”

Camila held his gaze. “Oh, I understand perfectly.”

Mitre’s voice was low. “So does she.”

Steven’s laughter came again, bitter. “She doesn’t understand anything. She’s always been soft.”

Eve flinched. The insult wasn’t new. The way it still landed was.

Steven stepped closer, his voice sharpening. “You think you’re happy, Eve? Is that it? You think you’ve

found peace and now you can look down on me?”

Eve’s mouth opened, but her voice caught.

Ryan’s voice came again, controlled. “Say what you came to say.”

Steven’s eyes narrowed. “What I came to say?” He gestured sharply toward Camila and Mitre. 7 came to

see who was playing family with my daughter.”

Camila didn’t blink. “We are her family.”
