Chapter 184 Steven Breaks and Tells the Secret 2
Steven’s voice didn’t shake.
Steven swallowed hard. “Jonathan is not innocent. He is weak, but he is not innocent. He has always
known what Leah is. He has just always preferred to look away.”
Ryan’s chest tightened, anger flickering. “Get to the point.”
Steven’s breath hitched. “The point is… one night.”
He paused, eyes flickering away like the memory tasted like rot.
“One of Leah’s wild nights,” Steven said.
Ryan didn’t blink. Tevin and Maxwell stayed silent.
Steven’s voice came out rougher. “She went out. To have fun. To do what she does.”
Ryan’s jaw clenched. “With one of her lovers.”
“With her gigolo,” Steven corrected, and the word carried disgust.
Ryan’s stomach tightened.
Steven said the name like it was poison. “Luis Marvric.”
Tevin’s brows lifted slightly at the specificity. Maxwell’s eyes narrowed.
Ryan’s grip tightened around the broken phone so hard his palm hurt. “Luis.”
Steven nodded. “She liked him. Young. Reckless. The kind of man she could mould and throw away.”
Ryan’s throat tightened.
Steven continued, voice low and steady now, like he had crossed a point of no return. “That night, she sent
Mathias Goodwin home.”
Ryan’s eyes narrowed. “Her chauffeur.”
Steven nodded. “Her personal chauffeur. The man who drove her everywhere and knew all her habits.”
Maxwell’s gaze sharpened. “Why send him home.”
Steven’s eyes glittered with bitter knowledge. “Because she didn’t want him to know what she was up to. She didn’t want anyone to witness the route. The places. The timing.”
Ryan’s pulse hammered. “So she drove herself.”
Steven nodded slowly. “Yes. She drove herself.”
Tevin’s voice came quiet. “Under the influence.”
Steven’s mouth tightened. “Yes.”

Ryan’s chest tightened hard enough to hurt.
Steven’s eyes met Ryan’s. “After her tryst, she drove home.”
He swallowed hard, and for a second his voice nearly cracked. “And she ran down a pregnant woman.”
The air changed.
Ryan felt the words hit him like a physical blow.
Tevin went motionless. Maxwell’s eyes hardened.
Ryan’s mouth went dry. “What.”
Steven’s eyes burned. “A pregnant woman. She hit her. With the car.”
Ryan’s chest tightened so hard he couldn’t breathe properly.
He thought of Eve, pregnant, hands over her belly, fear in her eyes.
He forced himself back into the moment, into Steven’s voice.
“You’re lying,” Ryan whispered, but the words didn’t carry conviction.
Steven shook his head once, slowly. “I wish I was.”
Tevin’s voice came low. “Did she die.”
Steven’s jaw flexed, and his silence answered enough.
Ryan’s breath turned shallow.
Steven’s voice was hoarse. “Leah panicked. She went home. She called me.”
Ryan’s eyes narrowed sharply. “Why you.”
Steven’s laugh was bitter. “Because I was the one who cleaned up lesser messes.”
Ryan’s mouth tightened. “You were a driver.”
Steven’s eyes hardened. “I was more than that. Your parents used me for things they didn’t want hands on.
Tevin’s jaw clenched.
Steven continued, pushing through. “She called me in the night. She was hysterical. She begged.”
Ryan’s voice was tight. “She told you she hit someone.”
Steven nodded. “Yes. She said it was an accident. She said she didn’t mean it. She said she couldn’t go to
jail.”
Ryan’s jaw flexed.
Steven’s voice grew sharper with remembered disgust. “She said she would pay the victim’s family

anything. Anything. She just needed it to disappear.”
Ryan’s throat tightened. “And you helped her.”
Steven’s eyes flared. “No.”
Ryan went still.
Steven’s voice cracked. “I refused.”
Tevin exhaled slowly. Maxwell remained silent, but his gaze was unforgiving.
Steven swallowed hard. “I told her no. I said, ” his mouth tightened, “, I said I could clean up paparazzi
photos. I could clean up club incidents. I could handle the Bratva and mafia dealings they dragged me
into.”
Ryan’s stomach turned.
Steven’s eyes burned. “But I could not clean up murder.”
The word made Ryan’s skin go cold.
Steven continued, voice rough. “I went home.”
Ryan stared at him, anger and horror colliding. “And she let it go.”
Steven laughed bitterly. “No.”
He looked away briefly, then back at Ryan with eyes that looked haunted. “By morning, Mathias was
arrested for murder.”
Ryan went very still.
Tevin’s brows drew tight. “They blamed the chauffeur.”
Steven nodded. “Yes.”
Ryan’s voice came out low and dangerous. “How.”
Steven’s hands trembled slightly. “At first, I only suspected. The timing. The sudden arrest. The way Leah moved in the morning like someone who’d already decided the narrative.”
Ryan’s jaw tightened. “You confronted her.”
Steven nodded. “I did. She denied it.”
Maxwell’s voice came flat. “Of course.”
Steven’s eyes flickered. “But later… later I found out what she did after I left.”
Ryan’s throat tightened. “Tell me.”
Steven swallowed hard. “She drugged Mathias.”
Tevin’s mouth tightened sharply. Maxwell’s eyes narrowed.

Ryan’s chest tightened hard. “Drugged him.”
Steven nodded once. “She gave him something. Something that knocked him out.”
Ryan’s fingers curled around the broken phone. His palm bled slightly from a shard. He didn’t feel it.
Steven continued, voice low. “Then she sent him out.”
Ryan’s eyes sharpened. “Sent him out where.”
“Along the same route,” Steven said, “to the supermarket.”
Tevin’s voice came tight. “In the middle of the night.”
Steven nodded. “Yes. In the middle of the night.”
Ryan’s throat went dry. “So witnesses,”
“People saw Mathias driving the car,” Steven finished, voice bitter. “Around that time. And the evidence
pinned the hit-and-run on him.”
Ryan felt sick.
He looked away for a second, staring into the darkness as if he could outrun the image forming in his
head.
A man drugged and thrown into a situation he didn’t understand.
A woman with money and reach shaping reality like clay.
Ryan’s voice came hoarse. “And you had no proof otherwise.”
Steven’s mouth tightened. “None that would stand against them.”
Ryan’s jaw clenched. “What did my father do.”
Steven’s eyes flickered with contempt. “Jonathan begged me to rest the matter.”
Ryan’s chest tightened. “Because he knew.”
Steven nodded, slow. “He knew enough.”
Tevin’s voice came low, grim. “And Mathias went to jail.”
Steven’s expression twisted. “Yes.”
Ryan’s throat tightened hard. “How long.”
Steven swallowed. “Life.”
The air felt too heavy to breathe.
Ryan stared at Steven, and something inside him threatened to fracture.
He remembered being a child, watching his mother glide through rooms with perfect posture, perfect

smile. He remembered thinking her power was beautiful.
Now he saw it as predatory.
Ryan’s voice was low. “Why didn’t you expose her.”
Steven’s laugh came out broken. “You think I didn’t want to?”
Ryan’s jaw clenched. “Then why didn’t you.”
Steven’s eyes burned. “Because they threatened me.”
Ryan went still.
Steven’s voice cracked. “Jonathan and Leah realised my conscience was pushing me toward exposing
them.”
Tevin’s gaze sharpened. Maxwell leaned in slightly, listening.
Steven continued, voice harsh. “They told me if I talked, they would rope me in.”
Ryan’s eyes narrowed. “How.”
Steven’s mouth tightened. “Because I was also their driver then.”
Ryan’s chest tightened.
Steven’s voice dropped lower, more dangerous. “If I went to the police, it would be my word against theirs. And they had the resources to make me the fall guy instead of Mathias.”
Ryan’s jaw clenched so hard it hurt.
Steven’s eyes gleamed. “They told me they would bury me. They would make sure the world believed I did it. That I helped. That I was the one behind the wheel.”
Ryan’s breath came short.
Tevin’s voice was tight. “So you kept quiet.”
Steven nodded slowly. “Yes.”
Ryan stared at him, disgust rising. “And you let an innocent man rot.”
Steven flinched like the accusation cut deep. “I tried to find a way.”
Ryan’s voice sharpened. “Did you.”
Steven’s mouth tightened. “I couldn’t.”
Maxwell’s voice came flat, cutting. “You chose yourself.”
