Chapter 62 The Truth Between Us
Eve’s POV
Eve stared at him, confused by the way his words hung in the air. Reach out to Oliver?
What did that mean? Was he talking about the show or… something else entirely?
Her heart began to race, her fingers tightening around the soft fabric of the blanket covering her legs. “Oliver?” she repeated, her voice slow and uncertain. “What do you mean, Ryan?”
Ryan’s gaze held hers, his expression unreadable. He took a quiet breath and leaned forward, resting his elbows on his knees. “Oliver Macintire,” he said, the name sounding heavier on his tongue than it should have. “I heard he was the one you were seeing in Westwood. I don’t want him trying to interfere or claim anything. I don’t want him giving us trouble about the baby. I’m going to adopt him, so we can raise him as ours.”
Eve froze. The air seemed to vanish from her lungs. Her mind stuttered between disbelief and heartbreak.
He truly believed that.
That silence between them, the silence she had once hoped would bring peace, had instead written its own lies.
She opened her mouth to speak, but before she could, Ryan reached across the small space and took her hand in his. His touch was warm, trembling slightly, and his voice softened.
“I don’t want you to go back to him,” he said, and for the first time, she heard not anger but fear. “I didn’t know how much you meant to me until you left, Eve. I don’t ever want to feel that again, Now that you’re here… I just want us to be happy. Away from your father’s manipulations. Away from my family’s cruelty.”
His eyes were searching hers, desperate, sincere, raw.
“We said things we can’t take back,” he continued. “But my heart,” his voice broke just slightly, “my heart is yours, Eve.”
He squeezed her hand tighter. “I promise to love you without reserve. I’ll treat you better this time. I’ll make it right.”
His words came out in a rush, the dam finally breaking. She could see he meant every word. Even believing this child wasn’t his, he was still willing to stay, to love her through it. That was what shattered her completely.

He blinked, confusion flashing across his face, “What?”
“Oliver ten’t the father” she repeated, firmer now
Ryan didn’t react the way she expected. The old Ryan would have exploded, accused her, demanded proef. But this time, he stayed still, watching her, breathing slowly, as though he was fighting every instinct to stay calm,
He had learned something from the past, they both had,
She drew in a breath, needing him to understand. “When I left that morning. I didn’t take the birth control pills”
His eyes widened slightly, “You, what?”
“I stopped taking them. That day. The ones you made sure I took every morning” Her lips trembled, but she kept going. “I found out a month after I’d settled in Westwood that I was pregnant.”
Ryan just stared at her, motionless. His chest rose and fell slowly, his gaze unfocused for a second, like someone struggling to process what he’d just heard.
A thousand emotions flickered across his face, shock, disbelief, then something deeper Relief, Joy, Gratitude,
He sank back into the couch, rubbing his temples. “Why didn’t you just say it?” he finally asked, voice barely above a whisper.
Eve’s eyes filled with tears. “You warned me for three years that nothing should come out of whatever we had,” she said, her voice breaking. “You said love wasn’t part of our deal. That there would be no family, no children. I thought you’d ask me to abort if you found out. That you’d see the baby as a stain of my father’s blood. I didn’t want to put you through that, and i didn’t want to hear you say it either.”
She sniffed, wiping her tears. “After everything my father has done, I understood why you wouldn’t want anything connected to him. To have a child carrying even a fraction of his blood… I thought it would disgust you. So I decided to carry the burden alone,”
Her voice faltered at the last word.
Ryan sat there, still as stone. For once, he didn’t know what to say. All the years of anger,

He moved closer, so close that she could see the storm in his eyes, had th could brace herself, he pulled her into his arms and kissed her, hereby, depe drowning man breaking the surface,
Eve stiffened for a heartbeat, then melted against him, her tears mixing with the sale of kis lips
The kiss said everything words couldn’t, Regret, Reket, Longing, Love,
When he finally broke away, his forehead rested against hers, both of them breathing hard,
“I would never tell you to abort,” he said softly, his thumb brushing her cheek, “I would never kill your child, Eve, our baby, I was a fool back then. A complete idiot, Everything I said, everything I did, it all came from anger and cowardice. And I’ve hated myself for it ever since,
He pulled back slightly, meeting her eyes again. “I hurt you, I broke something good and pure because i was too afraid to admit how much I loved you”
Eve’s lips trembled. She wanted to speak, but he wasn’t finished.
“I’ve been walking around pretending to be a man in control, but I’m not,” he said, voice trembling now. “You have no idea how it felt, coming home to an empty house, not knowing where you were, if you were safe, if you’d ever come back. I was living in hell, Eve. A quiet, endless hell.”
His hand came up, cupping the side of her face. “Please. Let’s build a family. Let me fix this. I’ll do anything you want, anything. Just don’t leave me again. Don’t make me spend another night in this house alone. Don’t make me live another day wondering if you’re gone for good”
Her tears fell freely now, her chest aching with the weight of his words.
“Ryan…” she whispered, his name trembling on her lips.
He smiled faintly, though his eyes glistened. “I’ll be your puppet if you want. Your shadow. ril take every punishment I deserve. Just stay. Please.”
Eve’s heart broke all over again.
She had longed to hear these words for years, dreamed of them on sleepless nights when he turned away from her, when she wept quietly into her pillow alone, on her bed. But now that they were here, they came wrapped in pain and guilt.
She touched his cheek, her fingers trembling. “Nothing ever happened between Oliver and me,
