Chapter 66 The Silence Between Heartbeats

Ryan’s POV

The drive home was quiet, but not the heavy, suffocating kind that used to sit between them. This one felt fragile, full of something unspoken yet alive. The city lights flickered past the windshield, bathing Eve’s face in a soft glow. Ryan stole glances at her, memorizing every small detail, the curve of her lips, the way her fingers brushed the fabric of her dress, how her eyes seemed calmer now than they had been in weeks.

When they pulled into the driveway, he killed the engine but didn’t move. For a moment, he just sat there, watching her, as if afraid that if he spoke too soon, the moment would shatter. Then he got out and walked around to her side, opening the door for her. His hand lingered at the small of her back as they stepped into the house.

The silence inside was warm. Peaceful.

He led her upstairs without a word.

In the bedroom, the air felt charged, like the quiet before rain. Eve turned toward him, her eyes

soft, hesitant, but full of gratitude.

“Thank you,” she said quietly. “For today. For standing up for me.”

Ryan’s throat tightened. He took a step closer. “You don’t have to thank me for that.”

“I do,” she said, her voice barely above a whisper. “You didn’t have to, but you did. And it meant something.”

He reached out then, brushing a strand of hair away from her face, his fingers grazing her cheek. “Eve,” he murmured, his tone almost pleading, “I was angry for a while, angry at everything. But I never cheated on you.”

Her lips parted, as though she wanted to say something, but he continued.

“It was always the same thing,” he said, shaking his head slightly. “Kimberly or my mother would call. They’d arrange some event, some dinner. And then Luan would be there. Every single time. They’d laugh, take pictures, make it look like something it wasn’t. I thought I could ignore it, but I should’ve known what it would do to you. What it would cost us.”

He paused, looking into her eyes. “I should have realized what it looked like from your side.”

She swallowed hard, her gaze dropping to the floor. “It hurt,” she admitted softly. “Every picture. Every whisper.”

“I know,” he said, voice low, full of regret. “And I’m sorry. For not stopping it sooner. For letting them think they could dictate our marriage. Allow me to fix it, Eve. Please.”

He took her hand gently, his thumb brushing against her skin. Then, slowly, he moved his other hand to her stomach, resting it over the small, barely visible curve beneath her dress.

The moment his palm settled there, something shifted inside him, something quiet and

irrevocable.

The tiny bump under his hand wasn’t just a reminder of what they had lost; it was a promise of what they could still become.

All the anger, resentment, and pride that had poisoned his heart for years felt suddenly small compared to the warmth pulsing beneath his touch.

“This changes everything,” he whispered, his voice trembling. “He or she deserves better than what we’ve been. I can’t,” He swallowed. “I can’t let our child grow up in the kind of bitterness

we built.”

Eve’s eyes glistened. She covered his hand with hers, pressing it lightly against her belly. ” Then don’t,” she said softly. “Let’s not.”

Ryan exhaled shakily, relief mingling with something deeper, fear, love, longing. His thumb moved in slow circles, feeling the faint rhythm beneath her skin. “You have no idea,” he murmured, “how much I missed this. You. Us.”

She looked up at him, her lips parting, but before she could speak, he leaned in and captured her mouth with his.

The kiss wasn’t rushed or desperate at first, it was a slow unraveling of everything they hadn’t said, everything they had buried beneath years of silence. Her breath caught as his lips brushed hers, soft but sure. It was like breathing for the first time after being held underwater for too long.

Her fingers found his shirt, clutching lightly, as though grounding herself. He deepened the kiss, his other hand sliding up her back, pulling her closer. The world seemed to narrow to the rhythm of their hearts, the faint sound of rain beginning to tap against the windows.

He tasted of warmth and regret and something new, something raw, unguarded. She didn’t push him away; she couldn’t. She had missed him too, in ways words could never confess.

Ryan, though typically drawn to the primal, raw intensity of passionate encounters, was determined to reign in his impulses and offer himself gently to Eve this time. He yearned to worship her, to adore her as a man wholly devoted to his wife.

He laid her down upon the cool sheets, his calloused hands gently peeling away her clothes, layer by layer, as if unwrapping a precious gift. His eyes, burning with desire, memorized every curve, every freckle, every minute detail of her body. He drank in the sight of her before slowly removing his own clothes, his gaze never leaving hers.

Eve gasped as his warm, naked body pressed against hers, his touch tender yet igniting a fire within her. Ryan leaned down, his lips blazing a trail of molten kisses across her collarbone, her breasts, her quivering stomach. Each touch of his lips fanned the flames of her desire, her body arching to meet his touch, her core clenching and aching for more.

“I’ve been starved of you, Eve. I’ll have dessert now,” he murmured, his voice hoarse with need. He dipped his head, his tongue circling her navel before moving lower. Eve’s breath hitched as his tongue found her clit, his mouth feasting on her like a man possessed. Waves of pleasure crashed over her, her body convulsing as his tongue delved deeper, tasting her, teasing her.

When she came, it was with a cry of ecstasy, her body trembling as he continued to lap at her, his tongue thrusting into her, drawing out every last shudder of pleasure. Her body was ready for him, her hips bucking against his mouth, desperate to feel him inside her.

With a guttural groan, Ryan moved up her body, his c**k poised at her entrance. He slammed into her, filling her completely, their bodies joining in a dance as old as time. Eve’s walls clenched around him, her body slick and welcoming. Ryan exhaled, a shuddering breath of relief and desire. After months of longing, he was finally home.

He moved within her, his hips setting a rhythm that was both punishing and passionate. Though he craved the rough, animalistic coupling they often shared, he held back, his control hanging by a thread. He fucked her until she climaxed, her body convulsing around him, before flipping her onto her hands and knees.
