The Billionaire's Silent Wife (Ryan and Eve) novel Chapter 90

Chapter 90 The Weight of the Ashbrook Curse 2

Ryan felt something inside him shift. A deep, simmering anger that threatened to break the icy shell he

had forced around himself.

But even that didn’t answer the deeper question, the one that haunted him.

“Why me?” he murmured, voice low and edged. “Why is he focused on destroying my life? I didn’t wrong

him. I was a child. I inherited none of this. Why aim at me?”

Tevin exhaled softly. “Because you’re the last Ashbrook worth hurting. Your parents are sick, weak, barely

hanging on. You’re the only one left standing.”

Carter added, “And you’re the only one Steven thinks can feel the kind of loss he felt.”

Ryan’s chest tightened.

A twisted sense of symmetry.

Pain mirrored for pain.

Still, something didn’t fully align.

“And why target Eve?” he asked quietly. “What did she ever do to him? Why does he hate her? She’s his

daughter?”

Neither Tevin nor Carter answered immediately.

Tevin finally said, “Maybe because she represents what he lost. Maybe he isn’t happy that she isn’t on his

side in all this.”

Steven had always been a strategist. A man who knew where to strike for maximum damage.

And Eve… Eve was soft.

Eve was gentle, upright and calm.

There was no way she fit into his revenge plans.

Ryan swallowed hard, forcing his emotions back into their cage.

“Is that all?” he asked.

Carter nodded slowly. “All we could verify.”

Tevin, however, lifted one last envelope.

“There’s more.”

Ryan’s heartbeat slowed.

Tevin slid the envelope across the table. “We found the original withdrawal details for the missing

one-point-eight million.”

The world narrowed to a single point.

Ryan stared at the envelope.

Tevin’s voice was gentle. “Open it.”

Ryan did.

Inside was the official bank statement, stamped, authenticated, indisputable.

He read the line once.

Then twice.

His vision sharpened.

His hands stilled.

Because the name printed beside the withdrawal was not Eve’s.

It was Kimberly’s.

Every muscle in his body went still.

Carter continued quietly, “They got the bank manager to talk. Off the record. The footage you saw of Eve withdrawing cash was real, but she wasn’t stealing anything. She was withdrawing her own savings to pay for her grandmother’s funeral.”

Tevin added, “Kimberly forged documents. She used access she should not have had. And the missing one-point-eight million… is on her.”

Silence.

Thick.

Suffocating.

Violent in its stillness.

Ryan did not move.

His face remained calm, eerily calm.

But inside him…

A volcano cracked.

Heat surged beneath his ribs.

A betrayal that stabbed deep, deeper than he expected.

Kimberly.

His sister.

Who claimed Eve was the gold-digger.

Who spread venom behind Eve’s back.

A thief.

A liar.

A saboteur,

What she did had nearly destroyed Eve’s reputation.

He closed the file slowly, deliberately, each motion a thread pulled taut to keep himself from snapping.
