"Who is looking down on you?"
Owen was thoroughly disgusted with Tiffany.
"You're the one looking down on yourself."
"Do you want to know why no one respects you? Because you don't know how to act like a decent human being!"
Tiffany completely ignored his reasoning and kept screaming.
She operated on her own twisted logic—the kind where she was allowed to betray the entire world, but the world was never allowed to betray her.
In her mind, everyone else was always at fault.
She was utterly blameless!
"I'm done arguing with you. We're getting a divorce tomorrow!"
Owen could tolerate a lot. He could stand by her side when she bickered with the main branch.
But he was not going to endlessly defend her toxic behavior.
Especially not this time. This wasn't just some petty feud; she was trying to sacrifice their own daughter to benefit her family.
It infuriated Owen beyond words.
He had finally made up his mind. He was done.
But a divorce wasn't something he could just declare unilaterally.
Tiffany was vehemently against it.
"I'm not getting a divorce! Why should I?"
"Owen, you're pathetic!"
"You absolute coward! People look down on you, and instead of working harder, all you do is pick fights with your wife and demand a divorce!"
"I didn't do anything wrong! I won't sign!"
The veins in Owen's neck bulged. In the past, Tiffany would never have dared to call him a failure.
He knew he wasn't as exceptional as his cousins, but he was far from useless.
"It was a disaster! Owen refused!" Tiffany practically spat the words out.
Frederic frowned. "If your husband disagrees, you just need to talk him into it. Explain the benefits."
"The man is handsome and comes from an incredible background. So what if he's divorced? That's a minor detail."
"Those who achieve great things don't sweat the small stuff. This is all about paving the way for Seb, anyway."
Frederic made it sound perfectly reasonable, but Tiffany was directing her rage at her own family now.
If they hadn't specifically chosen an older, divorced man, the Churchills wouldn't have been so incredibly hostile.
"Dad, it's useless. Owen won't listen to me on this. He accused me of trying to sell my own daughter."
"The rest of the family found out too, and they shut it down completely."
What she really wanted to say was that it was Beatrice's fault. If they had just set up a normal blind date instead of trying to save Beatrice's son with a desperate alliance, the Churchills wouldn't have been so furious.
"Let them know. You're Yolande's mother. You're just setting her up on a blind date. What right do they have to interfere?"
