Claire could only agree, waving goodbye to Dane.
"Stop worrying about me and go get some sleep yourself."
Hearing that, Dane nodded. "Call me if you need anything."
Once Dane left, Claire headed to the bathroom.
After washing up, she collapsed onto the bed and fell asleep almost instantly.
She slept soundly through the night and straight into the morning.
Claire rarely slept in, but this time she didn't wake up until eleven.
Stephen had wanted to wake her for breakfast, but Dane stopped him.
"Let her sleep. She's been exhausted these past few days."
Stephen was a man of strict discipline. He understood her fatigue but still believed she should eat breakfast.
"She can eat and then go back to sleep."
Dane shook his head. "If she wakes up to eat, she probably won't be able to fall back asleep. It's better to let her rest."
"But..." Stephen frowned. "It's bad for her stomach."
"Doing it once won't hurt." Dane reassured him. "Claire is a doctor. She knows her own limits."
Stephen rolled his eyes at Dane. "You spoil her so much. Aren't you worried you'll turn her into a brat?"
Was he genuinely concerned, or just testing him?
Dane didn't care either way.
By the time Claire finally woke up, she was starving.
The first thing she asked when she saw Dane and Stephen was, "Why didn't you guys wake me up?"
"I'm so hungry." She stifled another yawn, rubbing her stomach.
Stephen shot Dane a pointed look. "He said we shouldn't wake you so you could get enough sleep."
Claire acutely caught the glint of schadenfreude in Stephen's eyes. "Stephen, I think Dane made the right call."
"Because waking me up wouldn't have done anything but let me eat. I need my sleep."
