The Bond Between Us (Anastasia and Herman) novel Chapter 1098

The crackle of fireworks echoed through the phone, blending with the playful shouts and laughter of the three Salstrom kids. Anastasia’s gentle, caring voice floated in, asking Herman if he wanted some fruit.

All these sounds painted a picture of cozy family life—something anyone would envy.

Scott glanced at his own lonely surroundings, and the longing in his eyes was unmistakable.

“Herman, if you’re not coming out for a drink, at least send me a video of your family. Let me see the fireworks. It’s been years since I’ve watched fireworks,” he said.

“Sure thing,” Herman replied.

After hanging up, Herman shot a quick video: Paradise dashed around the yard waving a sparkler, Emmie and Nancy chasing after her. Anastasia watched with a warm smile, gently calling for them to slow down so they wouldn’t fall.

Salma sat nearby, lovingly holding Cynthia’s hand as they watched the display together.

The yard was lined with rows of fireworks, and Flynn was in charge of lighting them up.

Colorful bursts filled the night sky, dazzling and bright. Inside, laughter and warmth wrapped around everyone.

This—this was what the holidays were supposed to feel like.

Scott sat in his car, watching the video on repeat.

Why do men work so hard?

It’s not just about money or status.

It’s for family. For love.

After a tough day out in the world, coming home to a place like this—a safe haven—makes everything worth it.

Scott wished Juliana would be a little softer with him, maybe show a bit more care. But all he could recall was her yelling and angry outbursts. He was almost afraid to go home now.

The Salstrom family.

Anastasia glanced at Herman. “Why did Scott call?”

Herman tucked away his phone. “Probably just feeling down on his luck and looking for something to lift his spirits.”

Anastasia blinked, puzzled. “What?”

Herman gave her a soft smile, wrapping his arm around her shoulders. “Let’s watch the fireworks, babe. Tell me—which do you think was prettier, tonight’s fireworks or the ones on Cloud Mountain back then?”

“They’re both beautiful,” Anastasia said, looking up at the sky. “They’re all amazing.”

Herman looked at her, eyes warm. “That night’s fireworks were even better. And your voice... was even sweeter.”

It took Anastasia a second to catch his meaning. When she realized what he meant, her cheeks turned rosy. She elbowed him. “You’re so bad.”
