A man’s pride is like a fortress, built brick by brick, impossible to tear down.
Jason couldn’t see what lay ahead for him—maybe a lifetime in darkness, maybe a face he’d barely recognize in the mirror. Wasn’t that just dragging Monica down with him?
Monica, though, didn’t get upset. “Jason,” she said, “when I make a decision, I stick to it. Don’t bother trying to talk me out of this. From now on, I’m taking care of you until you get better. Your mom’s not young anymore—do you really want her coming in here, seeing you like this, crying herself to sleep every night?”
She’d nursed Chase through his accident before, so staying at the hospital felt almost routine for her.
There was a glint of warning in her words: if Jason kept pushing her away, she’d just tell Clarissa about his blindness herself.
Jason, barely able to move, had no real way to fight Monica’s stubbornness. Torn up inside, he chose to stay silent.
So Monica, thick-skinned as ever, just moved right in at the hospital and started looking after him.
But secrets have short legs—before long, Clarissa found out about Jason’s blindness.
Dr. Evans brought in the best eye specialist they could find, and a surgery plan came together quickly. Still, there was only a fifty-fifty chance Jason would ever see again.
Monica was everywhere, running errands, helping Jason settle into a regular room after intensive care. Clarissa saw everything she did, taking it all in.
Now Jason’s future looked dim. Blindness, scars—it would be nearly impossible for him to find someone to marry.
One afternoon, Monica had just finished washing Jason up and was carrying out the basin and towel. Clarissa hurried over, gratitude all over her face. “Monica, thank you so much. You’ve worked so hard.”
She clutched Monica’s hands tightly, like she was afraid this perfect daughter-in-law might slip away at any moment.
“Jason’s lucky to have you,” Clarissa said, her voice thick with emotion. “It’s a blessing for him, and for our whole family.”

The readers' comments on the novel: The Bond Between Us (Anastasia and Herman)
Author pls Pls don't separate Ana and Herman once again because of Sandy. There must be an ending to Ana's sufferings!...
Yes yes yes!!! Thank you!!!...
How comes the twists are becoming uninteresting and unrealistic? Readers will prefer cleaner straight happy endings. Please don't go far beyond otherwise readers will lose interest. Time to end the story like we want it to be....
Please give us a happy ending for Anastasia and Herman with Pattie recognized as Herman's daughter, thank you!!!...
