Herman’s take on Sandy was brutally on the nose.
Truth was, Sandy had skills—she could wriggle out of just about any mess, no matter how hopeless it looked.
That’s because she was ruthless.
She’d do whatever it took to get what she wanted.
But before Sandy could fire back, Herman cut in, “You aim higher than the sky, but your fate is as flimsy as paper. That’s just how it is for you.”
“Why?” Sandy shot back, refusing to give in. “Why can’t I have everything I want?”
“Because you’re too greedy.” Herman strolled down the stairs, settling onto the leather couch, his face all sharp lines and cold eyes. “And you can forget about marrying into the Stranz family, or using us as your ticket to stay in the city.”
“Herman, after all I’ve done—” Sandy tried to play the gratitude card.
Herman’s voice turned steely. “That was settling a score, not a favor. I’m telling you, Sandy, you’d better start looking out for yourself. Leave Riverdale while you still can.”
“I’m not leaving. Scott won’t let me go, either. I’m carrying his baby. You have no right to make that decision for me.” Sandy stood her ground, defiant. “I will marry into the Stranz family. I will.”
Sandy wasn’t the type to admit defeat. She couldn’t stand always coming in second to Anastasia. All she wanted was a decent life—was that such a crime?
No, she told herself. She wasn’t wrong.
But deep down, something in Sandy was twisted. She thought the world owed her.
Herman’s lips curled into a frosty smile. “Give it a shot, then.”
Just five words, but they sent a chill straight through her.
Sandy’s bravado faltered for a split second.
“Herman, I’ve never crossed you—”
“You’re on Riverdale turf. That makes it my business.” Herman tapped the floor, his eyes turning icy. “You barge into my house, looking for a fight. You must be out of your mind.”
Sandy’s face turned a blotchy mess, red one second, white the next.
Right then, Nelson walked in.
“Show her out,” Herman said, voice like ice.
Nelson stepped up beside her. “This way, please.”

The readers' comments on the novel: The Bond Between Us (Anastasia and Herman)
How many names does Herman have ? Ian Hank ?...
Author pls Pls don't separate Ana and Herman once again because of Sandy. There must be an ending to Ana's sufferings!...
Yes yes yes!!! Thank you!!!...
How comes the twists are becoming uninteresting and unrealistic? Readers will prefer cleaner straight happy endings. Please don't go far beyond otherwise readers will lose interest. Time to end the story like we want it to be....
Please give us a happy ending for Anastasia and Herman with Pattie recognized as Herman's daughter, thank you!!!...
Pls update. This novel is really good....
