Patricia and Erin didn't expect that Beck could so firmly and directly reject Linda right in front of them, although he had always seemed polite and respectful toward them.

He paused for a moment, glancing subtly at Celeste before continuing after half a second, "...They can't be forced. Ms. Shaw and I are not suitable for each other. I hope you can help persuade her—not to waste her time and future over me."

She looked at Celeste, who had remained detached the entire time, calmly sipping her tea, and couldn't help but feel that Celeste was silently laughing at the Shaw family's humiliation.
Her smile grew a bit stiff. She forced a dry laugh and said, "You're right. I'll talk to Linda properly."
"Thank you, Madam Shaw," Beck responded politely.
Linda had already fled in humiliation long ago.
Once Patricia and Erin left and the door was closed again, Beck sat back down and said to Celeste, "Sorry for taking up your time."
Ever since he realized Linda had feelings for him, he had always made his rejection clear. But Linda had shown no sign of backing off.
He had tried to find opportunities to speak to her directly, but each time, before he could say anything, she would pretend not to understand and run off.
Today, he finally had a chance to meet with Celeste one-on-one, and he didn't want to waste time dealing with Linda's drama.
Linda's lack of restraint and willful ignorance had finally worn down his patience.
She had experienced it firsthand, and she knew very well that love truly couldn't be forced. Now, she was able to accept that truth with peace of mind.
And perhaps Beck had sensed that, which was why he had said it so plainly.
That was exactly Beck's intention.
Still, even though she had let go of the past, hearing someone bring it up again inevitably stirred some unpleasant memories.
So, he couldn't help but want to apologize.
Celeste didn't want to dwell on the past and changed the subject.
Beck looked at her flawless, delicate face. His heart stirred slightly, and he wanted to say something more but remembering that she hadn't officially divorced yet, he restrained the impulse and changed the subject too.

I know everyone will not agree with me and I also know that Trevor is a trash and all but I want Trevor and Celeste to get back together. They should be the end game and for that to happen Trevor should start working hard for that second chance....
So we're going to go on for another 15 chapter's about jordan's temper tantrum with neither of the parents asking her what's wrong..stop milking it. The only reason i'm still reading is because i cant leave a book unfinished. What I'm pissed about is the book started with promise and turned into a circus....
The story should just come to an end and the writer should give their reader the closure they deserve. There's no point in keeping the story going. It's been the same since the start. Not has changed. The initial story plot was, that Celeste and Trevor are getting devorce and still after 800 + chapter, they are still heading for a devorce....
Don’t Shaws and Lockets reflect ever on themselves? Every difficult situation, they look forward to Wynn to ask for Trevor to help. Initially the focus of the novel was on how Wynn is so accomplished blah blah and now - she is just a useless person, incapable of anything. Irritating storyline...
